Hmm, looks like they're leases. I'd bet he's gotta reduce debt on the books, and he finds a home for ones with a loan against them. Even if he sells his to a leasing company the debt isn't carried on his books anymore.
Coincidental timing it was announced by the lease holder right when AAL hit $14 a share.

As I read it AA is just going to lease them from BOC instead of BCC, but the planes were destined for AA all along. I'm happy to be wrong though, I'm all for more Group IV planes.
Boeing Capital Corporation (BCC) was originally going to buy the aircraft and lease them to American Airlines. However, BOC Aviation says it has entered into an agreement with BCC and the airline to buy the aircraft from The Boeing Company and lease them to American Airlines.
