Ha, said few AA pilots ever.

People bid it to avoid weekly 4-5 day trips and/or to get specific days off. They don’t bid it because “it’s a good deal”

It can be great depending on your bid status and philosophy about flying PR or not.

Reserve is pretty senior in my status especially SC for CAs. I bid SC reserve on purpose for multiple years before covid. Many months where I didn't work at all including August and December 2019. Other months 15-30 hours and 9 times out of 10 I knew the night before.

Times have changed since covid I no longer bid it. Too much working. Although with the direction trip trading has gone in I've started to consider it again.

All that said RAS being implemented will destroy reserve and it will just go to the bottom of every status.

The senior reserves in my seat are cleaning up with premium pay. Bet some are making 400-500k this year…

Just curious how does that work. At UAL when on reserve we don't get diddly-squat until we break min guarantee of 73 hours. Can guys on reserve pick up on days off for premium pay or how does it work?

the current scheme this year since premium is flowing like gravy, is to pickup something that touches a day off and also touches rsv days. So you can get a 3 day, lose one day off, cover 2 rsv days, and get all of the pay over guarantee. So a straight min day 3 day (15:45 credit) is worth 23:37 bring a SC up to 99:37 for the month. The caveat is you never know when scheduling will start giving out premium reserve, as it is the lowest priority, and seniority rules (don’t take turns spreading the wealth). This summer has been a bonanza for those who are flexible since you never get more than a days notice for premium reserve.

No requirement to work any normal reserve assignments to get the added pay.

So at UAL if you work a premium trip on your days off that just goes towards your guarantee? Why would any reserve ever agree to fly a premium trip then?

short call is 76 hours at AA. Everything picked up as premium pays time and half over guarantee. Even if it overlaps your reserve block days. So yea it’s a great way to make money. United doesn’t have something similar to this? Find that hard to believe.
