Your commute is only paid for if you're Sr enough to hold DH at start of your trip and end. Or if you use your travel bank money that you acquired from the company and bought your own commute ticket.

Following this post though as I’m in a similar situation to uglyghost.

won’t leave tbh. I’d write down the pros and cons of both and go through the process at American and see how you feel after if you get the CJO. Having a commercial ticket takes the stress out if things but there’s still nothing like landing and taking the shuttle to your car. I’ve had a taste of that a few times and it’s a game changer. If you’re thinking about making the jump there’s a reason. Ultimately do what’s best for you. No one is starving at either place.

UPS is a great company with benefits starting year 2 that are second to none. "A" plan pension, WB payscale for entirety of career, ease of cargo flying, etc etc. But you already know all that. With AA while living in DFW, the main differences are you'll be getting the option for all daytime flying if you want, the possibility of sitting reserve at home, better seniority progression (subject to debate - but most at UPS now are predicting a period of stagnation while AA is hiring 2000 this year), flight pairing options besides the week on/week off (or longer if you're on an international fleet) stuff that is the best you will ever do at UPS as a commuter, and the ability to never use the word "crash pad" or "reserve the jump seat" unless you choose to. This will come at the cost of a lesser overall pay and benefit package, (which can be somewhat offset by the advantages of living in base) and the roller coaster that is the passenger airline industry. Solid wisdom passed above that "no one is starving at either place," so really the rest comes down to what lifestyle is more important to you and how much you're willing to sacrifice your overall QOL for those extra $$. Good luck!
