Default UA to AA?

I have spent 3 years at United, 39 years old, living in South Florida. United is not getting contract anytime soon and even when it happens our work rules will be 1 contract cycle behind everyone else. Miami base is apparently is fairly junior?

I wouldn’t give up that kind of seniority, but commuting does suck.

AA has had MIA base for as long as I can remember. Why NOW are you considering the jump when you could have gone there from the start 3 years ago? Surely you must have known UAL didn't have a base in South Florida.

Because I never got the call. People are quick to forget just how hard it was to get hired at major just a few years ago. Hiring environment has changed and it appears that I might have a shot at it this time.

To be fair, three years ago you pretty much went wherever you got hired, and UA seems to have been more proactive about that.

Miami is a junior base. You should be able to get it in new hire class if you are willing to take either equipment. If you don’t get it in class for some reason you should have it within 3-6 months.

Exactly. I did not get the call despite clean record, 10000TT and TPIC. I have a friend working in the hiring department now

Maybe you're quick to forget that AA, like United, has hired something like 2000 pilots since hiring started back up. So, from the end of 2021, all through the huge growth of 2022, which continues today and you did.....nothing? I find it hard to believe that if you updated your apps or talked to a recruiter that you would not have heard back from AA for an interview. With all the 2000hr pilots getting picked up, I'm sure a United pilot with 3yrs experience would certainly get a shot.

This tells me that your breaking point was the contract and not so much the commute. Your emotions are running high right now, I get it. Just think it through. I'm sure driving to MIA would be better than commuting elsewhere.

You are not wrong, It's just sort of the last straw.

If the contract is the last straw, then realize that AA is probably not any closer to one than UAL. I’m quite confident that Kirby and Isom are coordinating this behind the scenes. Also, isn’t there about to be an MCO base at UAL? Too far of a drive from where you live?
