a few months ago in recurrent the fleet manager came in said that they had just secured about a dozen airbus from Alaska (old VA planes) and that they were optioning for a dozen more XLR's (whenever those are suppose to come). also mentioned that they were close to getting 773's from a Middle East and SE Asian location but didn't specify carriers. TIFWIW
The increase in the overall number of 777 FO's and the addition of the 5th sim (which was a massive investment) might actually give some credit to AA in the market for more aircraft. But as we all saw with the A-350 sim in DFW, that doesnt mean much until the airplanes are actually delivered.
Yes, there are more 321Neo's coming from Alaska. This has been confirmed, but no press release as of yet. The Alaska 321Neo's will need some work (seat config and FMS changes) and AA is finalizing the details with Airbus for the retrofit of the used 321's with the new orders before they are announced. This will hopefully be before the end of the year.

AA just contracted a 5th 777 sim full time for 2 years from CAE in DFW. The sim was formerly brought over from an Asian carrier and retrofit to work for AA. Check pilots said that it entered service for AA about 10 days ago and they are finishing the evaluation of it now.

So there I was, standing in line considering whether or not to get a pizza at Skyview 8 when I noticed someone behind me. It was Robert Isom. Since we had just come to an agreement on the contract I elected to ask him some 777 questions as I was down for school and had hear rumors of some used 777-300s coming from “a Middle East carrier.”
True? “No, we’d like to get some but those carriers are holding on to their -300s due to the lack of reliable deliveries from Boeing and Airbus.
777-9 then? “Just too much airplane for AA.”
How about the -8? “Pretty expensive for its capabilities.”
That was about 6 weeks ago. FWIW. Something tells me they may revisit this decision someday.

Hopefully there are more 777's to be found. The other point to bring up, every single 777 CA will retire in the next 5.5 years. The youngest WB CA at AA was 59 years old, the amount of churn that is about to happen on the WB side is probably driving that leased sim, especially if it is only a 2 year lease.
