AA to recall/hire 2,500 over 5 years...

Special Jetwire posted today...

" As part of our plans, we expect to hire at least 1,500 new flight attendants over the next year and create approximately 2,500 new and recalled pilot jobs over five years, which we think will lead to about 1,300 Captain upgrades. "

That is awesome news for the entire profession.

I wouldn't get too worked up over this claim. Statements like this are usually tossed out just before a contract vote in the hope of dazzling the easily suckered. As it stands now, there are 2500 pilots who have recall rights or AA flow thru numbers at AE. Not all would return, so it's possible street hiring would occur, but again statements like this are easy, whereas actually seeing (or needing) 500 pilots/year over the next 5 is more elusive.

You know what I say to that claim..............A big fat "whatever". Seriously, does any AA employee trust those #)(@ers? How convenient that they announce growth/hiring plans when the USAir deal is potentially on the horizon. I'd love for it to be true for the sake of the AA pilots that have been nothing but kicked in the groin for the past decade or two, but it's got propaganda written all over it.

Trust me.......this tidbit means little to us with no competitive contract. So far, nothing but eye-rolling and head shaking from the pilot group.

DAL and dalpa did the same thing with the latest contract. " vote this in and there could be hiring this year!". Guess what? Lmfao.....

AA did just announce some international routes...DFW-ICN and LIM. ORD-DUS and JFK-DUB.

Yep... Pretty much all done with aircraft that were pulled off discontinued routes. Shuffling the deck chairs!

As eaglefly stated above - it's all just lip service. Easy claims to make.

Until we get an ISC, nothing else matters. Otherwise we lose focus. This announcement and Kumbaya is all timed to lower our expectations into a substandard contract AS WELL AS get the airline thru the holidays with the "optimism." Not falling for it... can you say Hold the Football, Lucy.

No chair shuffling. 777-300ER's start line ops in December. 10 in the next year. They have to go somewhere. First 6 routes replacing 777-200's. Those -200's have to go somewhere, either other new routes (ICN) or displace 767-300's which can fly other city pairs(DUS).
