I just heard from an internal source that there will be a press conference Monday to announce the merger. Guess we will find out soon enough if there's any truth to this.

Any financial gurus out there?

I found it interesting that Parker was offering an all stock merger. If it flies I think it would be good to not generate any additional debt for a cash portion. The last article I read said that it would produce a company with a market cap similar to Delta. Anyone have any idea how the new AA's cash position and debt to equity would compare?

At this point I suppose most of us who have been in this industry for an appreciable amount of time have been through a BK/Furlough etc..., but I have what I suppose is a morbid fascination with this side of the AMR BK proceedings....out of curiosity, does the average AMR pilot feel a merger with USAir is the best option going forward?

Yes, we feel that a U.S. Air merger is the best option.

I would like to see a newly minted MBA from a good school, enthusiastic about aviation, become CEO. He'd do the job for 1/10th of the "compensation package" that would be crafted for the next CEO, and be thrilled by it. He wouldn't be tainted by any previous CEO or culture. And he'd understand that it is PEOPLE who make a company great.

And a herd of pink unicorns will traverse Central Park on Christmas day, as well.

Sounds good in theory, but having some wet-behind-the-ears graduate trying to manage a corporation that operates in a worldwide environment would be a disaster of epic proportions. At least he'd be cheap.

To think of it another way, who do you want doing your heart transplant, the newly minted Doctor or the guy that has already done 10,000 of them?

Airline CEOs are the bottom of the barrel MBA-types. You dont see executives leaving places like JP Morgan or Goldman Sachs to come to DAL/UAL/AA/etc

They should. Where else can you be rewarded so handsomely for such appalling performance ?
