Exclamation BREAKING: AA/US Airways deal within weeks

Wall Street Journal:

American Airlines parent AMR and US Airways Group are hashing out the last major details of a merger agreement that would create the world’s largest airline and are racing to finalize a deal within the next week or two.

If the deal is reached, the new company could have a market capitalization of more than $10 billion and would vault ahead of United Continental Holdings as the biggest U.S. airline by traffic.

So what's the "breaking" part of this breaking news? They've been weeks away from a merger for months.

Didn't they say that a couple of weeks ago, too? And, I remember seeing an article, I believe it was last August, that said a decision would be made in the fall.

Not saying I don't expect something to be announced, but I've been expecting an announcement for over 4 months, now.

It's going to happen with near certainty now, and it's less than two weeks away. WSJ has a good scoop. If you can see behind their pay wall

They are still figuring out how to integrate the pilots in the merged company.

If you do a google search for "amr us airways near merger" the top story is the Wall Street journal article free of charge

Couldn't they just do East, West, and American pilot groups? If US hasn't had a mess on their hands before this merger, I cannot imagine what it'll be like with 3 pilot groups flying under one color.
