Default Merger in jeopardy...

Strong opposition is being built against this merger. Definitely not the sure thing we thought it was. Even AA pulled the US Airways plane from the AA website.

Status quo with every merger. 'twas no different with Delta, United and just about every other. It'll go through.

"It's not unusual for states to join a federal merger review. By doing so, officials can look out for their state's interests and take part in meetings and depositions conducted by the Justice Department."

19 states join antitrust review of AA-US Airways merger

Just the name of the game, it will go through no problem.

This is a show. The federal merger review is how governments justify their jobs and exact control/leverage.

They allowed DAL and UAL, if anything these dispositions would allow an avenue for the government to do nothing and protect their precious direct flights home.

Sources say the U.S. Department of Justice is performing a typical probe of the proposed merger between US Airways and American Airlines, but the merger should proceed as planned and close in the third quarter. "It’s nothing more than part of the fact gathering the DOJ would do of any merger of this size," one source says. Fox Business (6/28)
I don't think we've seen the end of mergers. Hawaiian and Alaska may be next, but every once and a while I read a peice on cabatoge suggesting international mergers. I suppose as we continue our US sovereignty death march and approach one world (Western) Government via UN Constitutional overrides we may yet see international mergers like DAL/AF, Lufstansa/UAL and AMR/BA.

Alioto’s firm has been involved in a number of plaintiffs’ actions in mergers, including an effort to block the Southwest Airlines-AirTran Airways merger in 2011, the Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines merger in 2008 and the Continental Airlines and United Airlines merger in 2010.

An appeal filed in the Southwest-AirTran lawsuit resulted in a March 21 decision that the Alioto law firm had to pay $67,495.30 in attorney fees incurred by the carriers.

Looks like this law firm is just chasing ambulances looking for a pay day.

These airlines are too powerful to prevent the merger. Just scare tactics
