Video Interview
I got the email for a video interview (woohoo!) and just took it. I can confirm that there are 5 questions and they seem to come from a bank of 20 because one was labeled "question 19" for instance when it was asking me the 4th question. I got the same ones: approach brief (with a follow on about picking the most severe of 5 threats at the airport: small a/c in vicinity, fog/haze, close-in runway changes, crossing active runways to get to terminal, extensive ground traffic near terminal); positives/negatives of being a pilot for American; why do you want to work for American (not just be a pilot here); and TMAAT you had to explain an operational delay.
If you didn't know, it's not a "live" interview. There are no people talking to you. It's a computer voice. He asks the questions slowly and repeats them. You get 60 seconds to think and then 3 minutes to answer. You can start and stop the answer early. I felt like I included 99% of the information in the answers that I wanted to, but I could tell I sped up and spoke too quickly sometimes. So, my only advice is make notes for your answers that you can refer to if you lock up, and try not to rush. Good luck everyone! |

Seems like the process is still the same as a year ago. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Best advice I have:
Pay for interview prep! I used FAPA. They did a great job! I have heard a lot of good stuff from other places as well. This ain't a Dollar General interview. Get as much prep as you can. Practice some Skype interviews. Practice, practice, practice telling stories. We all have great stories-we just aren't used to telling them in an interview format. And good interview prep can help you come up with ways to turn a potential negative into a positive! (Good interview prep can show you how a "loaded question" is not really loaded the way you might think. You can learn techniques to make yourself look like the hero-even in a "loaded question" situation.) Ignore anyone you hear who has "woe is me" stories about interviews. Make your own luck! -Best of luck to all! -And -remember-don't be a cheap-ass! Pay for prep! Pay for the interview intel sites. Show up prepared! (And do some practice interviews before you ever get the call. Some airlines love to give you short notice.) |

I third the above notion.
I used Emerald Coast and Holy Cow the amount I learned was tremendous. I fully believe that they were the difference maker in my ability to get through the interview process. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

750. Not 800 but close enough considering previous guidance was 500-600 newhires in 2016. He did put the caveat in there though, that the 750 number is also dependent on how many furloughees elect to come back with their "last chance" offer starting in April... He said half of "new-hires" (i.e. 750 - recalls) will be from flows and half OTS. Specifically said if we have family, friends, squadron mates, etc., that are getting "discouraged" about no calls/ no hiring to hang on, that the company is anticipating things are about to start moving again. And that number should hold steady for a couple of years then curve upwards dramatically... And, for those hopefuls concerned about which "side" to go to, looks like there won't be separate LAA/LUS "sides" for too long. New target date for single FOS/TMS/CCS (and about 10 other joint crew systems...) is August 2016. So (if all goes according to plan), worst case for a new-hire in the first quarter 2016 that doesn't get the "side" of choice, a year or less of commuting... All very positive/optimistic yesterday... |

Has anyone heard anything specific about former interns getting "preferential" interviews? I was a flight ops intern several years ago and they sort of hinted at this during the internship interview as well as during the internship itself; just wondering if i have anything to look forward to.
Thanks |

For those of you that have recently accomplished the video interview, how long has it been before you've heard something back from American? I took the interview yesterday, and I can confirm I had the same 5 questions as Not a Golfer. Thanks!
Please keep in mind that no one truly knows right now and keep logic at the forefront. If you do not receive the TBNT email your sitting pretty. Sent from my SM-G386T using Tapatalk |
