Technically you will have 12-13 days off. How many you lose to commuting depends on your game plan on how often you're used.

On reserve you normally work 18 days a month, so 12 days off in a 30 day month and 31 days off in a 31 day month.

On short call, some guys try to pick up later start times so they can commute in on their first day to start reserve, then they shift their start time earlier every day so that they are able to commute out at a decent time on their last day. You have to be in place regardless of where you sit in the reserve groups, because there's no guarantee that you won't be called. If you are junior, you're gonna get tagged with an early reserve start time on that first day, which means you'll have to commute in the night prior.

On long call things get better - you cannot be assigned a trip that signs in before noon, so your days leading up to reserve duty should always be yours. Additionally, it's easier to predict when you are going to be called and if you fly a high time trip in the beginning of a long reserve tour, you can usually go home and have a good idea that you're not going to be called in the last couple days. In my last long call stint at MIA I think I worked a total of 10 days.

I used aviationinterviews.com with good success. They have not changed the video format significantly in the last few years so all the gouge on that website is pretty spot on.

My pleasure. Questions were very basic. Why AA and what advantages/disadvantages you see to moving to AA. Two questions about an appr brief. First, you had to recite it back after taking notes and the second asked you to talk about top threats that pop into your mind after the brief. Hardest part is getting used to talking into a dead video screen. That was weird. I passed but should’ve practiced more that way.
