True.

Also people should bear in mind, that your seniority for pay and bidding are not set in stone until you bid equipment, because that seniority is based upon projected training completion date.

You get to bid for initial equipment within the class by date of birth, oldest first.
But you may be faced with the difficult decision of choosing between losing up to 24 seniority numbers to get the base/equip you want, or going to a non preferred base and equipment to keep or gain seniority within the class.

A decision that could possibly come back to haunt you in later years or not depending on how things go.

New Hire lock in is 6 months.

I can't wrap my small brain around this. Can you please elaborate?

Thanks,

Kid

The six month training lock is only binding on the company(ie they can't switch you to another seat in two months). YOU can bid anything you want as some as your on property.

Late October AE flow through assigned 757/767 training training in Nov. Early/mid Nov he got awarded AB JFK for 1Jan. 757/767 training cancelled. AB training started early Dec. Six+ week paid vacation with Thanksgiving off. Loving life.

Word to wise - if anyone's dress code says 'business casual' it means old fashioned, and not new wave, business casual. Five day beard, that looks cool at Google HDQ, or flip flops, or baggy/saggy 'pull your pants up' look might not be your best plan(true story).

Good luck.

Suit and Tie baby...it's the only way to go. I got confirmation that I was among the first 200. Any words of wisdom as to what the interview may be like? Or any interview advice for this type of interview?

737 bid allows you to try and transfer WITHOUT incurring a new training lock-in or having to go to school again.

737 bid will/might have quicker advancement vs. being junior of 757/767(in general). But with guys avoiding MIA 757/767 some of those guys are getting bodies behind them which means they randomly might have a choice of trips to fly.

737 you'll fly more. No FB trips(mostly true statement). 757/767 reserve might be 50-80% FB(???). 60 hrs a month? 50% FB? Means 30 hrs as FO. Avg leg of 6 hrs(?) and it's five flights. 2.5 landings per month.

737? 60 hrs a month? Avg 2.5 hr leg(??). 24 flights a month. 12 landings.

You'll be a smarter FMC guy on the 737 because of the 12 ldgs vs. 2.5 ldgs per month.

Just a few comments about some of the AA procedures that have been talked about:

The brief? Personally, as an FO, I could not care less if the captain makes all of the briefs. I spent years and years briefing takeoffs at my last airline and I personally have no problem never doing another one. As long as we both understand the plan, who cares who does the brief?

The "I have a salute" call is just one airline's way of ensuring that the pin is pulled and the ground crew has done their job. Why does it
matter WHAT they say? It doesn't. With that said, I petition for the "three thugs and a tug" call. ;)

The arrival PA? Yup, as old as the hills. However, it takes all of ten seconds to make and is done just as we are rolling to a stop, so it's not like my attention is diverted away from the airplane in any meaningful way. To me, it's just the way AA does things, and it's such a minor thing, that (again) I couldn't care less. It does not rate on my list of things that bother me.

Honestly, if we were to scrutinize EVERY airline's way of doing things, we would find all sorts of what we might consider strange procedures, callouts and policies. They all have their quirks - even USAirways. ;)

Honestly, the captains I've flown with have all been very laid back, really cool guys. All have been an absolute pleasure to spend three or four days with in the cockpit. I know I will eventually run into "that guy" who's reputation precedes him, but it hasn't happened yet for me.

Arrival PA? What do you mean by that.

Lots of good posts/info.

Caribbean flying might be the best there is. Good wx, mostly day flying, rare all nighters, rare FB trips. Keep a/c at island so no bag drag. Every MIA arrival is customs/bag drag. MUCH better than it was 2 yrs ago.

Easiest flying can also lead to dumb stuff. Standard FNG Caribbean brief I give - "great, easy, flying. But every island has a mountain on it, every mountain has aluminum on it, if you're not on a printed line and/or know exactly where you are YOU are putting your life at risk."

757/767 has some great stuff. TGU is crazy. Smart guys don't go there. I bid it. Lots of city options. Some Europe but it's very senior (CDG, MAD, BCN, MXP). Lots of guys meet/date/marry SA women.

We used to call him/her IO for International officer. For flights over 8 hours we take an extra FO. Now referred to as FB. Flights over 12 hours we take an additional FO called the FC (4 man crew).

We normally say Food Boy and FC film critic. It's not funny it's just what we say. I still refer to myself as Food Boy.
