Settlement Rumor

I can't for the life of me figure out why the "New American" would want additional slots out of LGA. That airport already holds enough of the country hostage with delays..... : )
I hope the settlement rumor is true. But, as they say, "Believe none of what you hear, and half of what you see". I'm sure there is some political swinging in play, at the moment.

Delta's slots are already a done deal, while this is a pending deal. Big difference. If, big IF, slots at DC are the only issue, they will be given up or the merger won't go forward. Probably will be more than AA/US would like but less than the DOJ wants.

Holly Hegeman, a spot on analyst predicts a settlement in her subscribed blog PlaneBusiness.com ...she makes a very solid point: if this goes all the way to trial and US/AA win, then Jetblue and SWA get NOTHING in terms of slots at LGA and DCA. They want these slots big time, and many in the government want these low cost carriers to gain slots.
She basically says that given AA/US inability to get DOJ docs/interviews from previous mergers (per master Levie's ruling) all forces would be pushing for a settlement at this point, and that includes parties not involved directly in litigation, such as JBU and SWA.
She makes a very good point. The behind the scenes pressure from SWA and JBU on the DOJ and other politicians is huge, and if they don't get what they want, and it goes to trial they all end up losing. In a settlement, most all parties win, something that the judge says she is aiming for since this was all started.
I would post her blog here but it's against her copyright per her paid subscription service.

The DOT will take slots even if US/AA win.
