I'm sure that SWA would be happy to give American a DAL slot for each DCA slot that AMR gives to SWA.

No. What is amazing is that airlines who go through bankruptcy feel they deserve to keep the slots that could be sold to satisfy creditors and maintain pensions for their employees. Just saying!

You really should lose the bitterness GS. What was it? Five years ago that SWA made a play for F9. It is getting old and makes you seem ............pathetic. Semper Fi and Happy birthday (tomorrow).

Yes. Because the point of bankruptcy is to sell off valuable assets that can produce income after the reorganization. Good idea, genius.

Genius,

Keeping those assets and merging with another airline to create a monopoly at a slot controlled airport is good for who? Genius?

The point of BK should be to screw someone in order to benefit you the most? Riiiiight.

Well...let's see. It's obviously good for the creditors in the bankruptcy and the reorganized company. If it wasn't, it wouldn't have been approved by the federal judge overseeing the reorganization, smart guy.

No. The point of bankruptcy is that "it gives to the honest but unfortunate debtor…a new opportunity in life and a clear field for future effort, unhampered by the pressure and discouragement of preexisting debt." But, don't take my word for it, those words are from a 1934 Supreme Court decision.

Spot on Oscar---remember when bankruptcy USED to be something that people avoided at all costs. Now its a way to get some new government financing for new airplanes, reduce your labor costs, etc---woohoo. What's not to like.

Yeah that might have been a good argument in 1934 after the stock market crashed. Now it is just a "business decision" for those who don't think they should ever be held responsible for poor decisions on their part (both individuals and corporations). I have come across too many of my fellow employees who are capable of paying their debts but choose to conduct themselves in ways that would have been considered unethical in 1934. Don't get me wrong, bankruptcy is a tool that should be reserved for those "truly in need" of a "new opportunity."

Of course, SWA will never, ever, ever, ever declare BK. It's simply... unthinkable.

I've often wondered... the cost benefits of a common fleet type will one day disappear in the sense that the 737 will eventually be no longer competitive in terms of operating costs and maintenance. Technology marches on. It'll be interesting to see how SWA deals with that when it happens.

I'm not wishing ill on anyone. Like most here, I'm simply interested in how we do business.
