AMR-US Airways Said to Settle U.S. Merger Antitrust Suit - Bloomberg

American?s Flight Attendants Celebrate Settlement Announcement

American Airlines and US Airways Group Inc. have reached a settlement with federal regulators in the U.S. lawsuit seeking to block their $17.2 billion merger, a person familiar with the matter said.
A deal with the Justice Department will be announced today, the person said, asking not to be identified because the negotiations are private. The two sides have been discussing airline concessions such as ceding flight slots at Washington’s Reagan National Airport, people familiar with the negotiations said. The deal would require a judge’s approval.

AMR rose as much as 42 percent to $13.50 in over-the-counter trading. US Airways jumped as much as 9.5 percent to $25.49 in New York before trading was halted.

It was never about the price of airfares. This was political. Holder is the hatchetman for the Chicago wing of the left. It was about punishing political foes. It did not cost AMR/LCC, it cost the major STOCKHOLDERS of AMR/LCC. Don't play their ball, pay the price.

Sorry the feds are owned by JPM and Goldman. SAC (Stephen A. Cohen) is on the outs. Did not pay his dues or something but we will not know at our pay grade. This was just punishment meted out.

Again, GREAAT NEWS for everyone. I have said "merger will be approved" since August and outlined my own reasons numerous times all over this board. Most kept the faith.
