There was, back in early to mid 2011. Pre BK. Then they decided to wrap EGL into the BK, to add to the offloaded debt. It's funny how in the court filings (to the SEC) to sell EGL, they said that EGL was very profitable, and provided a long term stable platform. Then, in a matter of months, all of a sudden EGL is bleeding money, and needed to take concessions ($43M from the pilot group alone during BK). Now they are coming back for more.
AMR and AE by umbilicus were sinking ships longterm.
No current Envoy pilot will take a pay cut, but future generations won't receive the same compensation. —Correct?
Are Envoy pilots required to interview before flowing up? Has the flow been extended to all Envoy pilots? AAL shrewdness may pay off for those Envoy pilots who do flow.

Not to butt-in here WD, but did you seriously just quote Parker?
That's hilarious. The man wouldn't tell the truth if his life depended on it! He says what ever the audience needs to hear, and routinely contradicts himself between audiences.
His song and dance of a 'return to glory' for good old AA is just that, a song and dance to help get the deal done.
Parker won, he got the deal, and now it's his show. Very soon the fAA employees will get a taste of his team's leadership style, and let me tell 'ya folks, Parker is no Bethune!
Expect no return to glory.

Ahhhhhhhh ok hummmm I said the post was about how well the new company was dong and you said no it wasnt it was about profit. I know that reading is not really one of your strong suits but I do like to read and I beg to differ on your opinion. This according to the new CEO of American, "We have much work ahead, but believe we are on our way to restoring American as the greatest airline in the world,: said CEO Doug Parker in a statement.”These financial results are evidence of the strong foundation we have in place and we anticipate improving upon these results as we further integrate our operations in 2014."
I dont know maybe its just me but this seem to be more that just about hey we made a profit. It seems more like the new company is doing well. I think it will benefit you greatly in the future to read a little more before you make accusation.

If Parker didn't care about service before, I think that will change. We've already made a statement with the Airbii transcon configurations. And despite our service the last few years, AA has traditionally been known as a "premium" carrier.
I don't know about you guys, but I'd like to see us return to that. The public is SICK of the cattle car treatment, they're tired of being treated like meat on a hook. I think the market is there.
I'd like to see the nickle and dime fees go away, but they are with us forever... there's too much money to be made, and less taxes to pay.

Despite Euphoria, American Airlines Faces Some Harsh Realities - TheStreet
"The team battled Southwest in Phoenix and held it to a draw, but Southwest competed on price, not on domestic or global connections. Is it possible that American is still competing with Southwest, adding seats to three aircraft types? Is that what corporate fliers want? At O'Hare, "there is going to be hard-fought, hammer and tongs battles for corporate contracts," said aviation consultant Bob Mann. "It will be fought contract by contract." "
Ted Reed has some experience with US. He used to work for US and the Charlotte Observer.
I do think things will be at least a little different this time. The fee cat is out of the bag, but I think they are better at targeting them at the right people. If they buy a really cheap ticket, charge them for air. If they are paying for first class, give them first class.
With US/AW, they always said they had a revenue disadvantage and had to keep things tight. SW was the major competitor in PHX. Things are different now, and the main source of revenue isn't the backpack crowd. They might be packing more in the back, but hopefully they will keep the front cabins good, or even make them better.

I am no Parker lover having dealt with him for years. I will however take him over Frankie and Wolf any day.

AMR marketing AE to sell, but no parties were interested. Logically, AMR folded the debt into the restructuring.
AMR and AE by umbilicus were sinking ships longterm.

This also, in essence creates a "B Scale" for future new hires to be hired under.
The alternative, if we did not ratify, would be "to be shut down". They even used the words "COMAIR II" in a meeting with our MEC. I personally do not buy into this threat, but there you go....
Now, in the perfect world that they try to paint the picture of, An FO would upgrade in less than 4 years, and a CA would flow in less than 12 years, so the caps would be nothing to worry about. But as soon as AA stops hiring, gas prices go through the roof, another 9-11 happens, AAG buys another airline, ect, ect, ect.... Anyone at EGL (Envoy) would get stuck there at these crappy rates and capped at either 12 or 4 years.
As far as flow through; You are correct that EGL/Envoy pilots who flow do not have to interview. There are 3 sets of flow through's (2 now). The first set where guys who actually had AA seniority #'s but got cancelled, and sent back to EGL, or flow backs. Not sure all the details there. They have all gone back to AA by now, FWIU. The second is the 824. That's 824 spots that AA had to offer to EGL pilots as the result of an arbitration award. Those spots are not attached to a particular name, but 824 spots that anyone who where inclined to flow up could take, in seniority order. The 824 go at a blended rate to street hires. It was supposed to be @ 30 - 50% (not sure) if AMR merged, but Eagle has been metering. The 3rd is the protected pilots. That is anyone on property prior to Oct 2011 gets a chance to flow to AA. This is at a slower blended rate. The MEC achieved this for the transfer of the EMB and CRJ certificates from Eagle's name to AA's name, and the loss of our scope. This was not voted on by the EGL pilots. Currently, they are offering "protected pilot" status to ALL pilots at EGL, to include future new hires, if this new AIP is voted in.
Sorry, I didn't mean to rant on and de-rail this thread. My original point was that it seems ludicrous to me that they would be hammering EGL/Envoy pilots for more concessions, with Parker getting bigger raises (I don't really care how much he makes, as long as it's deserved, and he runs a successful business, that makes stock holders AND EMPLOYEES happy) and $10B in the bank. I personally enjoy working here. I love the fellow EGL pilots I work with. I just wish they would leave us alone and let us do our job.

So would I.
Right now I would say Parker is the best airline CEO out there. His results speak for themselves.
He is very tough for employees to deal with though, and will not suddenly change his MO and put gold plating in the lavatories

I am not doubting a thing of what you said here in your post. I feel that Douglas could have ended our battle with the east years ago but found that it was financially beneficial not to. The point I was making is that the loon r57relay stated that the article was all about profits when in reality it was more about the company and how since the merger its doing much better than before.
