More AA reserve info for USAir pilots
Yesterday the company and APA agreed that reserves may volunteer for flying on their days off for straight pay above guarantee.
You wait for them to call you. You do not get access to pickup a trip. They must call you.
Currently we have volunteer for premium pay on days off for reserves. It is rarely offered. I did get 1/2 a trip this month for the first time. Premium is paid at 150%.
Premium is also, you wait for them to call you. You do not get access to pickup a trip. They must call you.
? Line holders get 150% pay for Premium flying.
For me this sounds like fixing an understaffing problem.

Uh? Did I miss the part about this being mandatory? How is a volunteer program going to fix a staffing problem?
In 18-24 months, if they don't staff fast enough at both (hopefully combined by then) companies, it won't matter if everyone including interns volunteers, we will have understaffing.

I dont see us understaffed in our particular status, 777 CA or FO, but I dont know about the others. Seems to me they are displacing 767 folks as the 320 and 787 come on line. In any case, along with this new reserve option as you know the picking up open time in another crew base for regular line holders will also alleviate pilot staffing. Many folks I fly with commute from places that are just as close if not closer to another base. And with monthly maximums like 96 hours this month, those 10-15 hour trips only available at some bases might be what it takes to fill up your month. So while I hear about short staffing from pilots and management alike, I dont really see it myself. Cynically, I could see motives for some to make this point though.

S80 DFW FO doesn't seem horrible right now either, monthly max of "FAR"s notwithstanding. Of course I only have all of about 2-3 weeks on the line watching it and, more importantly, I came over from Eagle where if flying wasn't added on each and every time I was "finished" with my trip it was a minor miracle. I was preparing for the worst but so far I've been pleasantly surprised, even over the 4th of July weekend.

Last day of June I checked reserve flying for June. N/b's were flying the most, then the 767, and 777 reserves flew the least. Considering that the 777 only(in general) has 3 or 4 day trips and the other fleets have 1-4 day trips and can split up a domestic sequence, which is impossible on a long haul international flight, it's no surprise that n/b's are used the most.
DFW reserve use was the highest amongst the big 3 bases (DFW, MIA, LGA).
I forget the exact hours but I think the majority of 777's were 35-50 hrs and n/b guys were 55-70 hrs, and perhaps more.
Snapshot of June only.

7576FO I appreciate your informative posts on here. It's nice to get good info without the bickering. I know I've talked to some CLT reps about reserve rules and hope others talk to theirs as well.

I went 26 days without flying in a row on short call between May and June and then only flew because I asked for a trip to be bought.
Long calls on the Airbus seem to work about 30 hours, short calls about 15-20 hours. I did see there was one R reserve FO on the AB in PHL who didn't work the entire month of June.
