Just so you know this PS give is for the entire employee group. I highly doubt this is meant to placate pilots. They aren't that stupid

Yes, I am aware of that. It was APA's "strongly worded letter" which got press attention, but the issue of lack of enthusiasm and a mediocre product is system wide. Parker can't just use this strategy with pilots only or it just alienates other work groups more, but neutering your primary vocal critic was a fundamental goal.
Might not be what you want for the end game but you have to admit it's better than we had a week ago. I'll take progress. This doesn't mean guys are gonna just lay down and let Doug steamroll us... But you can find some happiness in this. I know I know....just let it happen.....shhhhhh |
Foreword: I do think that 5% profit sharing is better than 0%. With that said:
It's important to look at the psychology behind all of this. Management is attempting to placate the employee groups at the lowest possible cost. Simply accepting this as great while it is SUB-PAR compared to our peers at UAL and DAL is the same mentality that got us into this JCBA and crap contract in the first place. "Well, I guess this is good enough." Where is min calendar day? Why does there A321 not pay the same as the B757? Why is E190 pay WAY below our competitors? Why do we have tons of 11 hour 3 day trips? Why should we accept WAYYYY less profit sharing than Delta or United. Until they match the competitors, management's message in disingenuous. Agents/FAs whoever else may be somewhat motivated by this.... but most pilots will not be FULLY MOTIVATED until we have Delta/United paychecks AND work rules. Watch the next round of management bonus and stock option payouts on the next 8K. This small 5% share is smoke and mirrors for what is really going on behind the curtain. |

Why, the same thing as now, which was the same thing said of the last contract offer albeit with different rationalizations. Those who balk will be "negative nancy's" angry about free money or chastised for complaining about pay RAISES (why do some people complain about free money or pay raises ?). Yet again, I talked to two more pilots yesterday who are impressed with Parker's move and I can see it already. As a group, the majority of us will be nicely prepped by then and ready to be rolled again in a few years. What I'm seeing now is exactly the same show I've seen for 25 years, but with a periodically changing cast. I have little doubt about the curtain call. The only difference is that this time, I will be perfectly happy with more money like the majority were last year and the "free" money (it isn't, Parker is buying something for this money which will pay off handsomely in a few years) like now. The other things........................well, that's for complainers. Me will no complain no more heckling from the back row, but applaud from the front taking any pay raises and any free money that comes my way. The majority confirm those are good things, so why rock the boat when only good things can be lost ? |

Much higher, but those rates were negotiated by their respective unions during contract talks. This wasn't negotiated, management just decided to listen to their employees. Of course some guys over here are already *****ing about it.... amazing.

Wait till 2020. Then, he will once again be offering Delta pay scales (us catching up scale-wise, but WAY behind from years of overall compensation deficiencies), but there will be ominous trade-offs. What will many say ?

Good Lord it's a free 5% bonus. Hopefully it encourages people to give a crap around here. More so the front line employees. I'm tired of taking the offline commute just so I will be treated better. It's pretty sad.

Name user - they'll just be even angrier that you're happy with 5% vs zero.
Zero rocks. Five percent is for guys who can't open their eyes (John Oliver ...) |
