Don't we stay in the Hyatt?

Very Thai on N. Fuzshing Rd has GREAT Thai Food!.

Carnegies on AnHe Rd. is a "Hard Rock-Style" Bar; chicks dance on the bar, etc. Very friendly towards ex-pats and if you tell them you are an airline crew, they wave the cover charge. Gets going late; after 10pm. And I think, Wed. or Thurs. is ladies night (check with your concierge)

Combat Zone, Malibu West is a good Western bar and all of the juicy bars are around there.

Brown Sugar on SongRen Rd. is a good live music venue; salsa, jazz or blues. Slightly expensive and not much mingling, but great bands.

Let's see: It's hot. It rains a lot. It smells really bad. All the crazy scooter pilots scare me.

The Sheraton is a nice hotel, stayed their a couple of times while the Sunworld workers were striking. Cheap eats can be found at the train station. I've had nothing but bad luck with Western food, stick to the Asian stuff. You can get anywhere in town from the subway. It's clean, quick and efficient, but extremely crowded around rush hour. The Chen Kai Shek memorial is interesting, but a little over done. The Palace Museum is suppose to be nice as well, but is a little hard to get to. They also have a nice bike trail system running along the rivers, with cheap rentals at various locations.

FDX Sheraton Layover
Anyone find any pubs, decent restaurants within walking distance from the Taipei Sheraton? Went left out the front door, down about 3 blocks and walked the alleys nothing but street vendors, McDonalds, book stores and lots of coffee shops. Thx!

First of all forget the combat zone, it closed down 5 years ago.

Sunworld, if you get booked in here, then just bring a large cardboard box and sleep on the streets, it will be cleaner, safer and more comfy.

Capones is without doubt a superb place to go for Italian food, I have had Italians tell me that those 2 chefs from Verona make the best food they have had outside Italy. Capone's Tavern: Al's back in town! IT is a 10 second second wak from the MRT station

The owner also owns The Tavern, which has about 130 screens showing whatever sport you want to watch on it, also great food and service.

Brass Monkey gets lively especially on Thursday which is Ladies night.

A trip out on the MRT to Danshui is good and stop for sunset and lots of great food. Worth going to the fort to watch the sunset and see some great history.

Hope this helps

Yeah, take the MRT to Danshui and hang out by the water. I think it's the last stop on the red line (but I've been wrong before). A guy could also take the short boat ride( a couple sheckels) across the river to the other side and rent a bike or stroll around. A great way to spend about 4 hours in the afternoon. Enjoy.

I also meant to say the Tavern is a great place to go, right next to the world trade centre and 101 for a real low cost hotel with nice rooms and great breakfast try Royal Best Suites. PM me if you need more info
