Shopping in SZX
If you like the 580 building in Shanghai, you'll love the Louhu Commercial City in Shenzhen. It is very similar only much bigger. The taxi ride costs between 50 and 60 RMB, but you can also get there on the Metro. it is located in the Shenzhen Coach Station, which is near the Shenzhen Railway Station, which is across the street from the Shangri-La Hotel. If you find your way to the Shangri-La you will probably be accosted by an employee of one of the retailers in the Luohu who will ask you what you are shopping for (all foreigners are shopping for something, right?) and escort you to his shop - whether or not that shop has anything like what you are looking for. It is the same deal as Shanghai - you have to dicker for your "happy price." They have a lot of the same stuff: Tommy Bahama shirts, North Face parkas, golf clubs, purses, toys, electronics and , of course, copy watches.
The Dongmen Shopping Center is farther away from the hotel and a very different experience. They don't dicker as much and, except for the ubiquitous copy watches, there are very few knock-offs. It is laid out more like the shopping area behind the Swissotel in KIX, only much larger. There are miles of alleys with sections for shoes, leather goods, cell phones and electronics, etc.
You can get a pre-printed card from the concierge for either place.
Happy hunting.
