It will never happen. (of course, now that I said it... )
DHL would block such a merger or purchase.
"...In November 2001, Polar was acquired by Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings (AAWW), whose Atlas Air subsidiary is a provider of ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance) freighter leasing. Polar became the scheduled service provider for AAWW, while Atlas continued to supply Boeing 747 freighters on a wet-lease basis to major airlines.
In October 2006, it was announced that DHL Express would be acquiring a 49% stake in Polar. Polar is still majority-owned by Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings (51%), and has 736 employees (as of March 2007)..."

As an Atlas pilot, I hope that it does not happen as I do not want to be put on the street like they did to the pilots at Challenge.

Hey Radial,

I guess the Associated Press is fake news now....
PILOT CONTRACTED BY UPS WINS $1.7 MILLION JUDGMENT
Associated Press | Feb 26, 1995 7:00PM EST
A jury awarded more than $1.7 million to a former contract pilot for United Parcel Service after finding that the company fraudulently gave a blanket promise of jobs to such pilots in 1987 and 1988.
The Jefferson Circuit Court jury last week awarded $746,500 in compensation for lost earnings and $1 million in punitive damages to John Rickert, 49, of Rye Beach, N.H.Nine of the 12 jurors - the minimum number necessary - approved the monetary awards to Mr. Rickert, now a co-pilot for American Airlines.
Hollis Searcy, one of Mr. Rickert's lawyers, called the outcome "a very positive precedent." The jury's verdict came after more than two weeks of testimony. It was considered a test case for hundreds of similar lawsuits against the world's largest parcel-shipping company.
UPS ultimately hired 418 contract pilots but rejected many others, and about 380 of those who were denied jobs sued.
Mr. Searcy, whose legal team represents all the complaining pilots, declined to predict what impact Mr. Rickert's case would have on the others.
Judge Edwin Schroering had refused to grant class-action status to the pilots' fraud and breach-of-promise claims, citing differences in the evidence. But Mr. Rickert, formerly a pilot for one of four airlines that provided UPS with flight crews, filed a "forerunner case" that could help in deciding the others, Judge Schroering said.
UPS indicated it would appeal.
"We believe the jury's verdict is contrary to the facts and the evidence that were presented, and we're going to seek review through the legal process," said Mark Dickens, a spokesman for United Parcel Service Co., the Louisville-based airline for UPS of America.
Mr. Rickert and the other pilots claimed that after UPS announced it would open its own airline, company officials promised them jobs if they would continue flying UPS planes.
Mr. Rickert's lawyers claimed the promise was a deliberate lie, meant to prevent contract pilots from seeking other employment during the 16 months it took the company to open its airline.
Company officials claimed they wanted to hire contract pilots because of their experience with UPS procedures and with night flying. But they said they promised them only the chance to apply, not a job.

I never mentioned anything about the contractor pilots. I mentioned that UPS never promised anything to the Challenge pilots. It's fake news to state otherwise.

So you’re right Brain. UPS never promised CAC pilots jobs....because they never gave them a chance.
But the fact remains, pilots who’s employers strike deals with UPS don’t fair well in the end.
That’s is not fake news. That’s just history.
Now before any UPS pilot (real UPS pilots) take exception with what I said, this is not a knock against the UPS pilot group or the IPA. These deals and the fallout from them were Corporate decisions. Not much a line pilot, ramp rat or truck driver could do to influence these decisions.
