Yeah, it’s been pretty busy lately and actually tougher keeping my currency since last Spring. So much OE, several Capt upgrades and Check Airman Upgrades these past several months (aside from Vaca of course). Probably because I choose some decent locations and mostly long haul xtra $ runs. Some mil friends got hired recently, some did not - it seems hit or miss but I will say the more recs the better as Atlas casts a wide net and its better to differentiate yourself from the mainstream crowd. Of course we do better with the lean amount of hiring going on in many other sectors; therefore, the lines are longer, candidates are more qualified/competitive and cross our fingers some type of increased compensation - Perhaps even some Groupons...

Are you saying you have mil friends that got an interview and didn’t get hired or they haven’t gotten hired because they haven’t gotten an interview? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Must apply to interview, must interview to get hired. Several got hired, some did not. Yes they had all interviewed. Nothing is guaranteed, we just do our best and what happens happens. Have one outlier mil guy who hasn’t been called yet. It’s been awhile.

I’ve got a buddy (non-mil) who applied late last spring, and just got the invite. He had three internal recs, and it seems the last one got him the email. YMMV, but that’s the latest I’ve seen/heard.

What is it like on the 767? Are they placing people there?
It occurs to me that would be my last choice airframe and it wouldn't really match my experience but it is a foot in the door. May be wise to not outright reject it if given the option. |
They're hiring into all fleet types at Atlas and Southern, as far as I know.

Yep, they are placing people on the 767. Can’t hurt to politely make your preference known. I’d also take what is offered if you don’t end up with a choice. Always time to move around airframes in the future. Gotta get onboard first [emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I would take whatever airframe is offered, I made my preference for the 74 known and was offered a 76 class. New contract is supposed to have a 18 month seatlock which is no big deal (but obviously that's subject to change)

Im a current widebody acmi pilot. Ive got a solid number of crossings. I have flip flopped a bit but have decided I love ACMI flying, but im not in love with where im at and im deeply concerned for its future. From the outside looking in almost anywhere looks like the grass is greener. ABX and Kalitta bringing home contract upgrades/finalization is great for the community. We hope to benefit as well, but who knows. It always seems that most of us can cut desired pieces from other contracts and life would be perfect, but that’s not how it works unfortunately. Life is tough enough, it’s a helluva lot tougher when your stupid. Until I look back from retirement that remains to be seen luckily. ACMI flying has been great if you enjoy non-scripted cookie cutter operations forcing you into some fantastic locations and sketchy ones at best. World is sketchy right now. Plenty of story telling with booming e-commerce, clothes, flowers, fish, lobster, cattle/horses (stank), race cars, bands, computers, killer batteries, mil stuff, troops, medical equip, pharmaceuticals, NFL, FedEx, UPS, you name it we’ve probably seen it or looked the other way. *Guam was great last week compared to most areas right now. If you have the chance, go for it and take a nice break. |
