New hire on the 777 starting October 28. Currently at a regional and my choice was upgrade at my regional (SkyWest) or come to Southern Air. I have 3500TT and am actually really excited to start. Can anyone working here (not previously employed pilots) comment on current conditions, where the 777 goes, schedule and anything I should know. I would love to hear positive things but also not naive to the reality of the situation.
Get 1000 hours PIC. Then go to Southern. You're looking at a 10 year upgrade on the 777 there. The 737 will be lucky to block 200 hours a year after you upgrade. You could probably bang out 1000 PIC in the next year and a half at a Regional I'm guessing.

Then he made a mistake. Maybe he's trying to warn others... I went there with zero but I was just upgrading with a Reserve unit. It took me about 5 years getting it with the military. It took me 6.5 years to upgrade on the 747 and I started getting calls from UPS within a week of upgrading but I had 1000 PIC with the military that I built on my days off from Atlas while flying with my Reserve unit...
Bottom line.... It has been mentioned over and over on this thread and I can PROMISE you that 1000 PIC matters big time at FedEx and UPS...
DO NOT COME TO ATLAS/SOUTHERN WITHOUT 1000 TPIC.
DO NOT DO IT.

When your at a job fair talking to recruiters, the PIC time (at the regional level) is important, but still may not be enough. Being an instructor at your current airline is so important, if you get the opportunity.
PIC 747, 777, 767,and 737 trumps CRj PIC time as well (for most people)
And lastly, if one really wants to fly internationally on a heavy, after the above resume builders are met, get on with Atlas, not Southern! Fly the 747 or 767 while going to job fairs, updating your online apps, while trying to interview for your “dream job”
Atlas and Southern are NOT the same! And it could be a year or two or longer before seniority lists are merged. And we still don’t know about what fences will be in place and for how long.

I'm not at either and I would do your research. Chances are if you have 1500 hours and an ATP there are many airlines better than Mesa, southern or any ACMI. Go somewhere that respects pilots and doesn't have a ton of labor issues.
