Which hotel in MIA during training?

Base and Seniority Progression
Any chance we can get back on topic here? Training questions are addressed in other threads.

New Hire here. Looking forward to training!
Quick question on these numbers. I gave a look at the CBA, and it appears that bids occur every month. Is this correct? So it seems like we make an initial basing bid early in training, and that's not what you want, or your wants change, you can submit a new bid or standing bid every month? Thanks! |

The only bidding you will do every month or every other month is for your work schedule for the next 30 or 60 day period. You will not have any choice in what your first base will be. If you’re on the 747, it will be ANC. 767 it will either be ONT or CVG, it varies month to month which is more junior. 777 will be LAX or CVG. It varies as well. 737 will be CVG. |
Preliminary Award for IAH and PDX is out. Looks like 767 FO IAH is 12/21. PDX is New Hire. Curious if this will hold.

Junior base is ANC yes, and reserve is at a hotel, with a few exceptions. Then we have SCDY lines which is a different story, but to answer your question, ANC is the junior base and reserve is wherever that reserve line says, in a hotel, of course paid by the company.
Here is another example: I was based JFK, assigned R2 (hotel reserve), in CVG. I called Sched, told them I would prefer to do R2 ANYWHERE on the planet, other than CVG. They said, how about LAX? Great! Got airlined from GRB to LAX, on my first day of work (instead of having to commute into JFK early, to start R2 there). As soon as I got off the plane in LAX, found out I was Operating to HNL the next day, 4 days in HNL, Operate to SYD, 4 days in SYD, then, for Qantas, Operate somewhere to Asia, and then keep going. I never actually was in a hotel on R2 at all that pattern. Another: I am assigned 7 days of R2 in base. I ask for 5 days of R1 (home reserve-NO pay!), then two days of R2. Approved. I am assigned 5 days of R1. I ask for R2 (hotel reserve), so I can get paid instead. They changed it to R2 somewhere, instead of the R1. |

Right now, no. Not enough sims. On the 747, whole classes are being sent home for weeks, Luckily, decent pay first year...no Training Pay, like we used to have.

I don't think your pay goes up until you complete OE. I think the four months thing is a leftover from the old contract training pay that no longer applies.

The Crew Member assigned a new Position shall receive the new rate of pay effective on the completion date of Operating Experience or one hundred twenty (120) Days after the initial class date, whichever occurs first. |
Cool! Couldn't find that but.

It does apply, it’s in the new CBA. 24.G.1

Any word on what kind of 76 flying will be done out of PDX? Mainly domestic, or international? Hope to jump on board Atlas before too long; would be great to be based here in the PNW.

The company email said existing flying that currently transits PDX - likely primarily domestic Amazon stuff a la Tampa. Tampa 76 is typically a min guarantee to 70 hrs affair based upon “trip” rig if you wanna fly, although peak season adds to that average and there are always occasional choice lines. Usually 14-17 days on and the occasional layover in base. I think I’ve seen as low as 13 with a couple days layover in base (this is rare and inevitably pays around 64 hrs). Typically 16-17 days on and a “trip” rig of 75-81 hrs if you bid reserve, with a mix of 1:30 call out (R2, for up to 12 hrs) and airport standby (R3, for 6). Usually pays in the 77-80 range. |

New 767 Base Award
Base expansion vacancy award is out. It looks like IAH went fairly senior with the Junior FO 4/21. PDX bottom four FO's are 4/22 and 5/22 New Hires.

Dec ‘21 - 2436 pilots
Aug ‘22 - 2654 pilots So net gain 218 pilots. Training department probably about to implode. If they actually REALLY wanted to grow the company, what about stoping attrition?, just saying. |
Thought I might resurrect this dead thread:
Most Junior FO in base as of the September 2022 Vacancy award. This isn't effective until November 1st, but keep in mind training is running > 4 mos, so May and later awards are effectively new hire bases when considering IOE footprint adding another 1 month plus with delays. Standard disclaimer that past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results. 747
|
Annnd, no vacancies at all for the October bid. I assume trying to catch up on all the new hire training.

Your guess is as good as mine. |

How long is the training footprint for airframe transitions after a seat lock? Is it similar in length to initial new hire training or is it considerably shorter due to not needing to repeat basic company indoc?
|
Indoc is just one week. The rest is the same, same delays too.

Upgrades
Can anyone comment on upgrade seniority times at all?

Excellent work! I don’t think those numbers will change much, even with the current order of 7 more aircraft. I do think the upgrade times will improve due to the attrition the company has witnessed in 2021-22 |
I think it's going to stay pretty close to 5 years unless they really ramp up the upgrades. (Which might come after this backlog of FO new hire training). I've been here about 2 and a half years and with 15 upgrades a month (Which is on the high side with how the vacancy numbers have worked out lately.) it would put me at 5 and half years to upgrade to a widebody with the current seniorities. The amount of resignations don't really come into account for upgrade time that much because a vast majority of the resignations are from those with less than 2 years seniority anyways.

Haha, good catch. Digging through the seniority list is more work than I'm up for tonight, mostly because the flight bag is packed and not readily accessible. I'll put it on my hobby to-do list.
