After coping with terrorism, bankruptcies and consolidation, the largest U.S. airlines are facing a new problem: They may start running out of pilots in as soon as three years.
...by largest they are talking DAL/UAL/AA/SWA/FedEx/UPS.

When will we our mgmt realize that we need a much improved contract sooner rather than later???

Is it true that this class of new 76 guys was supposed to be 8-10, and only 4 showed? ouch!

If you pay them, they will come...

I was told 3 showed up, out of 10.

no, it's actually a class of 8. They have 4 nh that start monday and then hook up with 4 upgrades the following Monday when systems start.

cool, just going off what an exco member told me yesterday. Either way, looks like people are starting to see that there are much better options out there right now than ole' Atlas Air.

Are you saying that the company only wanted 4 new hires for this class? That number is FAR short of the 18 new 767 pilots every three weeks that SA advertised in his letter last spring. With 20 Amazon 767's on the way, 4 new hires per class is not a very realistic or responsible way to staff this airline.

The more likely explanation is that the newly hired recruits are finding better options elsewhere and no-showing at Atlas.

It's that 17 day away thing, among other things, that's what chased me away from ACMI and back to my frac, it's tough when you have kids and familia. I loved the job, not the schedule.

How are you folks with a family managing there? Is it doable?
