Did you actually think that we would not be doing Hajj flights? Or let me rephrase that...would you rather the airplanes be sitting around waiting for charters to come our way?

It's either that or go look for business and sign up for whatever is out there...that is how we have managed to make profits over some difficult times since about '08.

It's not the flying we want to do, but the alternative is a reduction in the fleet, and all that goes with that. I'm not sure I want that...

So, I'll do the Hajj flights if it comes my way...

Sorry to disappoint you "light twin" drivers. I was down at the schoolhouse and the Hajj flying was said to be done by the 744 with Garuda. It's not private news as it can be found in a certain public forum on a video. Yes, I did say public.

I'm fine that it is going to be flown with a 744 but my point was that if the Hajj contract is on the 767, I'm sure I'd be fine with it as well...keeping airplanes on the ground is not good for any of us.

And CGK is actually a nice layover...

I'm sure others will ask...I'm sure you have posted your background, and flight times, and experience before, but please refresh our collective memories.:)

Welcome to the family, Alcord! You're going to like it here. As you can tell by perusing the forum there are the usual pilot squawks but take it from someone who spent 14 years somewhere else: This is a good place to hang your hat (if we wore hats, that is).

NightIP 06-14-2013 06:48 PM

Congrats to all! How big is this class?

Heck yeah! And besides looking snazzy, you can put 1-2 extra people under them in a rain storm.

I honestly had a dream about this last night because of this post, haha. The hats were actually one piece made of plastic though, but at least a 2ft diameter, lol.

744driver 06-18-2013 10:45 AM

I've actually tried to buy these hats from Immigration Officers in various cities (like Tashkent, Bishkek, Almaty, Karaganda, and Baku) where they have come on board our airplanes during stopovers...

Alas, no luck...

Tell the handlers in FRU that you want a big hat and they'll hook you up with a back door connection. That's how I got mine.

One of them also taught me some handy Russian phrases (big hat optional). :D

I miss Bish.

I'll just do without that hat, if getting one means a "back door connection"...thank you very much for the offer though.:rolleyes:

Go to any German flea market in a major city. That crap from the Soviet bloc is all over the place.

ultradrvr 06-19-2013 11:00 PM

I will also pass on the back door connection J. I'll let the thread get back on track for the folks who r waiting. Jeff C said it will be slow for a while and he expects it to pick up this fall as they evaluate next years manning reqs.

744driver 06-20-2013 05:21 AM

IMO, retirements, and FAR 117 (we are one of the few carriers to operate both pax and cargo airplanes) implementation. So, how the company implements the so-called "Cargo cut-out" will determine how many additional bodies we need to operate the 6 or so pax airplanes with pax rest rules vs cargo rest rules.

Personally, my body doesn't know the difference when I fly cargo vs pax...I'm tired when I am tired!! (Just amazing how politicians think, but that is a different discussion)

Twin Wasp 06-20-2013 09:25 AM

We have about 30 a year for the next few years hitting 65. So that's at least 3 classes a year.

Another rumor comes to fruition . . .

Atlas Air Worldwide
Announces New CMI Customer
Will Provide All-First Class Boeing 767-200 Passenger Service for MLW Air;
Expands Growing Atlas 767 Platform into VIP Passenger Transport
PURCHASE, N.Y., June 20, 2013 – Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: AAWW), a leading global provider of outsourced aircraft and aviation operating solutions, today announced that its Atlas Air, Inc. unit has signed an agreement to operate a VIP-configured Boeing 767-200 passenger aircraft in CMI service for MLW Air, LLC. Flights are expected to commence this summer.

Under the new CMI (Crew, Maintenance, Insurance) agreement, Atlas Air will operate MLW Air’s unique, all-first class, 102-seat Boeing aircraft, extending Atlas Air’s innovative CMI service solution and its growing 767 aircraft platform into very high-end passenger transport. The flights will be marketed as charters to sports teams, entertainers and other high-profile users.

“This agreement to operate one of the world’s most distinctive aircraft further expands our asset-light CMI service solution and diversifies our business mix with additional passenger ability,” said William J. Flynn, President and Chief Executive Officer, Atlas Air Worldwide.

“We look forward to offering MLW Air a combination of experienced pilots, highly trained flight attendants and an outstanding maintenance and safety record to provide a one-of-a-kind experience for passengers who demand the best.”

“We are keenly anticipating our partnership with Atlas Air, trusted the world over for operating aircraft to hundreds of destinations worldwide at any time,” said Martin Woodall, Chief Executive Officer of MLW Air. “Our customers demand outstanding service and reliability, and that’s why Atlas Air is the right partner for us.”

MLW Air’s Boeing 767 is the only all-first class 767 commercial charter aircraft with worldwide operations registered with the Federal Aviation Administration. The dual-aisle plane features first class seats with 60-inch pitch (the distance between a row of seats) in a two-by-two-by-two configuration. The seats recline to 156 degrees for maximum comfort and come with adjustable head and foot rests. The plane is ideal to meet the needs of heads of state, celebrities, diplomats, professional sports teams, entertainers, private parties, tour groups and other charter needs. The client list includes the Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks and such entertainers as Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones and Beyoncé.

Atlas Air currently operates 10 Boeing 767s, including three passenger aircraft and seven freighters. Its modern, efficient fleet also includes two VIP-configured Boeing 747-400 passenger aircraft, 37 Boeing 747 freighters and a recently acquired Boeing 777 freighter.

Now all that's left are the 777 and tanker contract rumors to come true. You never know, but I'm not holding my breath.

NightIP 06-22-2013 09:40 PM

8 ANC 747 new-hire spots on the latest vacancy bid. Probably spoken for with the upcoming July class, but good to see.

What is the tanker contract rumor?

Twin Wasp 06-25-2013 05:06 AM

Back four or more years ago the USAF was looking at getting 767 tankers and contracting out the flying.

CargoPirate 06-25-2013 05:15 AM

Thanks for the quick reply!

CargoPirate 06-25-2013 05:16 AM

BTW, I thought I read Atlas just picked up a 777?

Whale Driver 06-25-2013 05:51 AM

Titian, a division of AAWW purchased a B-777F that was/is on dry lease to I believe AeroLogic.

Not exactly. The study/proposal by Headquarters AMC was a CMI agreement to operate the KC-135s domestically (to support receiver continuation training/currency), providing relief for USAF tanker crews during periods of high operations tempo. That's right...a CMI agreement to operatate USAF KC-135s within the US. It was considered back in 2008.
