Thats pretty good. Do you roll your Rs when you say "Grrrande"?

BayBum,
I interviewed on the 13th with amhess. I'm in the pool as well...I'm 767 typed and 757 current but not sure what to make of your comment. Are you thinking I'm in a longer wait until a 767 class rolls around?

Ahoy amhess, glad to be enjoying a swim with you.

Cheers

I'd like to think that your points score is what will get you in a class now that we have plenty of experienced 767 guys on board and currently flying the 767.

From what I have heard several classes in the near future are going to be 747 classes, so as long as classes are being formed you are likely going to the 747...IMHO.

Good luck.

The guys flying the biggest equipment on the property will often refer to the smaller airframe (such as in the case of the Atlas 767) as the scooter or the light twin or some such thing. When I told one of my Whale-driving buddies that I would be flying an A-320, he said "thats a cute little airplane". Its an example of "mine is bigger than yours" humor.

Ummm...I know.

The better joke was "will autoland for food"...

Guess you had to be here.

Hopefully this link works, this is why I want to work for Atlas. A great organization moving our Nation’s 911 response team, USMC, to the AOR.

That is going to be greatly reduced after the afgan drawdown. Unless some new activity happens.

How can it be a heavy when you only have 2 motors?
BayBum

The more motors the more training wheels u need. :D

Just got the call to take the online test. I have read this entire thread and have a good idea on what the questions will be. Has anyone taken the test recently who might have remembered some other questions?

Thanks in advance for the help

744driver 03-22-2013 11:51 AM

I keep hearing that the ATP Test Guide is still the most helpful source...in addition, also download the North Atlantic Track doc that has been mentioned before.

Good luck.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It left my head spinning when I was done. I had a tasty adult beverage shortly thereafter to slow down again. :D

flhtrider, bummer. But remember Atlas will let you recycle in one year which is probably a bit over ten (?) months from now for you. If you still have the fire for Atlas, the next time around should be just a walk in the park.

Anyway, good luck wherever you go.

I have almost 8000 TT, with several thousand of those hours in the B-757/B-767 in both SIC and PIC positions, worldwide experience in North, South and Central America, Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa, 147 oceanic crossings (just counted) in the NAT, NOPAC, CEPAC and Indiana Ocean areas of operation, and inside contacts. I submitted over a month ago, and re-submitted about two weeks ago. Nothing so far.

Don't think you're alone.

I had ten thousand hours, six type ratings, heavy, worldwide, overwater, yadda, yadda. Took me eight months to get the call. Meanwhile, they were hiring regional guys with less of those specific quals.

Turns out that they like to hire a broad cross section of backgrounds. It is not at all just about the numbers on your resume. It is about getting well qualified pilots who really know the company, really want to work here, and are really great people to get stuck in the cockpit with for those loooong trips.

They also have a lot of resumes to choose from. Hang in there and be ready for the phone call upon first contact because they also like applicants who are ready when called. Oh, and they also seem to like folks who have a lot of patience...

Keep trying.

Oh how I love hearing heavy guys complain about RJ guys getting hired. Maybe a quality RJ pilots have is humility and not thinking they deserve a job. Just a thought.

To me, it didn't sound like DC8DRIVER was complaining. I sounded like his observation while he was waiting patiently. Personally, I'm happy Atlas is hiring folks from various backgrounds. My observation on the line tells me it's working quite well.

Yo DC8DRIVER get the grill ready 4/15-18 lots of CRM to be done ;)

Maybe that didn't come across as I had intended.

At the time, I couldn't understand why I wasn't getting called because my quals were so much like the flying that Atlas does.

Now (and what I intended to imply) I understand it is not only about the quals - everybody Atlas hires is well qualified from corp to RJ to mil to furloughed cargo guys like me - but it seems to be more about the quality of the person and not so much about hours or the equipment.

I'm a fun guy! Come on Atlas, give me a call!

There were several co-workers from my former job that got called in rapid succession, then it came to a screeching halt. Like you said, I guess they are trying to get a good cross-section of the market. I was just outside of that cross-section for the moment.

RJCapt 03-26-2013 12:21 PM

It's ok 8, didn't really mean to stir the pot, but just couldn't resist :) I think you hit it spot on. A cross section is what they are hiring. And I must say they have been pretty good a picking people.

bloomerpilot 03-27-2013 10:54 PM

Can any current atlas guys that know how to use our FedEx discount please pm me. I tried following the instructions on GlobalNet but I guess that doesn't work. Now we need an account #, not just a discount code.
(Sorry I know this doesn't belong in the hiring thread but this gets the most Atlas eyes!)

RJCapt 03-28-2013 04:16 AM

I just take my ID with me and go to the FedEx office. I use Atlas and my employee number as account number.

bloomerpilot 03-28-2013 05:48 AM

That doesn't work here in shanghai. The FedEx people have no idea what I'm talking about. They need a account number.
