We have a lot of issues, a lot aren't going to be fixed with a new CBA as long as SL and JC are at Atlas. But as bad as it is at Atlas it is light years ahead of other airlines. I would say most I have talked to are ready to fight because they know how bad it can get if we don't win.

^ truth. It’s not what it should be for sure, but for me at least it’s better than where I came from in terms of compensation, and time off. We don’t need to exaggerate to make our point that there are areas that need vast improvement to ensure the sustainability of the operation.

Yup. For sure Atlas is just great if you have been flying jalopies for 200 bucks a month. The problem here is that the new hires are comparing Atlas to where they came from and those of us already here compare it to where we should be. The fact that a guy has been flying open cockpit crop dusters and we have pressurization shouldn't be the metric by which we are measured. Atlas pilots will never get the contract that we deserve if pilots have no idea of their own worth.

I am reminded of a conversation that I had years ago when the captain of the United plane I was jumpseating on asked me if I would be willing to fly left seat in his 767 for 150 bucks an hour. As a brand new regional pilot I said "sure, I'd love to". He turned to his FO and said "See, THAT's what we're up against".

Know your worth.

FWIW I see your point. I really do agree with you. It’s hard to truly appreciate that perspective not having been at Atlas long term, and viewing it as many in my seniority range do, as a stepping stone to brown or purple.

This^^

At almost no time in history have pilots been in a better position to get
great contracts but pilots need to wake tf up and stop playing into the hands of the multimillionaire bosses that are tossing out slightly more crumbs than the last Mom & Pop shop you worked for. Stop rewarding bad behavior. The jobs will still be there - after industry standard contracts are signed. Coming before only pushes any new contract way down the road. Trying to 'game the system" because you like to believe the BS they are dishing out about a new contract "is right around the corner" so I should get in now is nonsensical. They have been telling people this for years and here we are with no negotiations taking place. Nada. Have some self respect for your worth as well as your profession. When fresh bodies stop showing up - for all these empty promises - that is when they will finally change their ways.

I agree with many of the points made, but I can't fault a pilot for trying to escape whatever mess they're in by coming here. The system is at fault, not the individual pilot.

I agree with your statement, however the reality of life at Atlas must be understood. It's easy to see a big jet and greener grass, then after 24 months realize that you just wasted two years of your life, logged 400 hours, did irreparable damage to your personal life and health, and are now mired in this cesspool of an operation.

It's too easy to fool ourselves, especially when you see a 747 and something new and seemingly exciting over the horizon. Anyway, its just so important to be honest with ourselves, to those considering coming and most importantly, to those working here. The first step to recovery is admitting the problem right?

Just out of curiosity how much flight time are people logging monthly? I imagine it’s different on the 74 vs 76

Elevation 12-04-2018 07:42 PM

Flight time on the 767: About 25 hrs per month. On the 747 I was doing in the neighborhood of 60 per month. A lot depends on the lines you bid, of course.

As a reference I have done 657 block hours on the 747 so far this year. My ADP statement shows a YTD gross of $107K. I've been here less than 3 years. Atlas had added a little over $5k in 401k match, plus about $10k in per diem. True numbers. I take a good bit of time off as well in the year.

The only way to make 107K in 11 months is to have a moderate amount VX.
