Atlas Air Worldwide B767-300ERs Ready for Military
Passenger Airlift Service Twin-Jet Aircraft Becomes Second Type in Company’s History Press Release: Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. – 1 hour 48 minutes ago PURCHASE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: AAWW - News), a leading global provider of outsourced aircraft and aviation operating services, today announced that its Atlas Air, Inc. unit has received approval from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Commercial Airlift Review Board (CARB) to provide B767- 300ER passenger airlift service for the DoD. The twin-jet 767 becomes the second aircraft type in the company’s history, joining an industry-leading fleet of Boeing 747 freighters and passenger aircraft. To operate the new aircraft family, Atlas Air has also achieved 180-minute Extended Twin-Engine Operations (ETOPS) certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, allowing for the aircraft’s optimal routing on trans-Atlantic flights. ETOPS approval requires a rigorous review of the company’s operations and successful implementation of additional operational and flight-crew procedures. Flight crews and maintenance teams operating Atlas Air’s 767s are qualified and trained for ETOPS. “The Boeing 767-300ER provides additional flexibility in our fleet as we continue to diversify the services we offer our customers,” said William J. Flynn, President and Chief Executive Office of Atlas Air Worldwide. “A new aircraft type is an important milestone for our company and complements our growth strategies. As a long-time operator of four-engine aircraft, we’re especially pleased to achieve CARB approval and ETOPS certification for our twin-jet aircraft, demonstrating that our continual focus on safety, reliability and operational excellence transcends aircraft types.” The company’s 767-300ER (for Extended Range) aircraft, configured for 255 Economy Class seats, will primarily transport U.S. military personnel domestically and internationally. The aircraft, along with two company-owned passenger 747-400s, are also available for commercial charters, providing customers with flexible seating-capacity alternatives. Atlas Air expects to place a third 767 into service during the first half of 2012. Atlas Air initiated B747-400 passenger service for the DoD in May 2011. With the 767, Atlas Air is the only outsource provider of aircraft and aviation operating services offering the new Boeing 747-8 freighter, 747-400 freighter and passenger versions, and the 767-300ER to its global customers. |
As of Feb. 1 there are 91 pilots on the -200 and the next bid for training slots will award on Feb. 15 for March training. When we were running -400 new hire classes at full tilt, number varied slightly, but I think the average class was 12 every three weeks and even at that rate there were backlogs that required skipping weeks for classes.
So, assuming my assuming is correct, best case for getting through the -200/-400 conversion to a new hire class will be 27 weeks from the beginning of March. SWAG, the next new hire 747 class will be Oct. 1, 2012. FWIW. Over/under? Disclaimer: If it wasn't obvious, its just a guess. |
Thats assuming all -200 pilots choose to go the the -400 right? I heard some might go to 767 Capt or just hang em up all together.

I've been applying and updating for 9 months now and I have heard nothing as of yet. Any suggestions? Is it because I do not have an ATP? Any words of wisdom?

Don't feel bad. I've been applying for almost every month for nearly 2 years only because I exceed the "published" mins and not even a thanks, but no thanks. |
Guys, this is my first posting here and I've been following the thread for only a couple of days. I retired from the AF after 24 years back in the fall and received the call for the test and an interview back before Thanksgiving. I the received the dreaded "your interview has been postponed til further notice" call and then called again to tell me it is back on. I am currently on a 15 day rotation with my current company and will not fly home until the day before my interview. The Captain I was flying with last night says there is a thread somewhere on here that goes over possible questions asked during the technical portion of the interview. I am scurrying frantically trying locate this info. Could someone please point me to the correct page and/or PM/email me with anything that helped you with the interview? If I had the opportunity, I would have purchased the technical interview book I've seen mentioned on this thread. I really want this flying job with Atlas as I feel it is the place to be for me and my family. I have gleamed much insight and advice from all of your comments and perspectives.

ChuckE, you're already on the correct thread. Check out page 213. Also, there's a search function up at the top of the page the will save you a lot of time with other questions as well. This is an exhaustive thread and most of the questions anyone can ask are contained within somewhere. Good luck!
