There are worse places than Southern. Not many, but they are out there.

A 16 hour duty at Southern would be a pretty cake day. You may get that on BAH-HKG. In reality, expect to be awake for 24+ hours every "day". The 24 hour layovers just are the exact wrong length to recover from your last flight AND be rested for your next. So you have to stay up when you get in for 6-8 hours, before you let yourself fall asleep, because when you wake up, you won't have another good opportunity to rest before its time to fly across another ocean.

I don't have first hand knowledge of how the 5th triple affected the schedule, but I haven't heard anyone raving about improvements. Southern never seems to get any better despite all the changes. Its a magical place.

After the acquisition announcement, the rate of people leaving slowed way down. Now, since the hope of near term relief has evaporated, you should see attrition pick back up. Even some of the 777 captains are looking at alternatives. Very few are committed to sticking around.

Fatigue is a major issue. one has to develop their own fatigue mitigation techniques. If you can't rest adequately on the airplane, this job will kill you.

it's not for everybody.

"you must chose" chose wisely

You're at the wrong 135, friend. If you're typed in anything at all, you should be able to negotiate a better schedule than that.

There are currently no newhire classes planned. There is a possibility of another 777 (Interchange/shared lease with LAN) this coming fall and possibly another 737 by the end of the year. I doubt either will trigger additional hiring beyond those already in the pool. Of course things could change overnight.

Last month HR sent out an email asking all the guys in the hiring pool if they are still interested. Also, Atlas signed a contact with Amazon. Now Southern Air recently posted on a job hiring website. That plus some pilots at Southern Air aren't holding their breath anymore for improvement at the company with the Atlas acquisition/merger.

I'm starting to connect the dots...I hope soon I will see light at the end of this tunnel and maybe they at least will post a class date for sometime this fall maybe. Any one else thinking the same thing?

Sounds like 'Strikes just got his information from the latest SAI Check Airman meeting which was held yesterday, so you should probably think of it as fairly accurate.

Management tends to be more honest and upfront with the Check Airmen then with the rest of the crews.
