part 91 Cat III approach

part 91 Cat III approach
Moving an MD-80 we had to divert into an alternate airport due to weather. We shot the CAT I approach with the weather at 1800 RVR. On touchdown it went to 600 RVR. How does a part 91 operator qualify to shoot CAT III approachs?

Same for CATII, RVSM, & RNP stuff.
I could be wrong though.

The problem is that these are one off events and the aircraft do not belong to any certificate. I've researched the RVSM issue and it just cannot be done unless the PIC has been to an extensive FAA school. The DAR can issue a statement that the aircraft complies but since the aircraft is not on any certificate the pilots don't qualify. I think it is probably the same with CAT III approachs. I'll just be content with 270 and CAT I.

Great Question:
I think its just a matter of the Airman being trained and qualed, the airplane being equipped and the operator being certified. Like mentioned earlier an LOA would be required as well as a program that keeps all of the above current. Any 91 operator can be certified to do the same things 121 carriers do like reduced vis takeoffs or CAT III as long as the ops specs are in place and signed off by the FSDO. Our department doesnt bother because we wouldnt use it enough to make the extra expense worthwhile. It sounds like your carrier was just OPERATING 91 and your OPS specs would have to have provisions to operate CATIII while non-rev.
