Hi!
I just had this question: for example, you are in cruise level, you are talking with your co-pilot. I am sure that every other plane can't hear your conversation. So basically what do you do? When you mute your VHF/HF in the AMP, are they still able to hear you? Or do you mute both conversations? I don't think you push the VHF/HF you have tuned in the RMP...it would remove you from the frequency!!*
Thanks a lot!

So, you either listen to the sources (radios, interphone, cabin crew) you have selected over your headset or use the overhead speakers. Which sources you can hear and their volume are controlled by the reception knobs I mentioned in my other post to you.
Anything you say in the cockpit will normally only be transmitted outside the aircraft if you push and hold a transmit button for that selected radio.
Sometimes smaller aircraft require the headset and microphone to communicate between pilots effectively. Those aircraft have a few additional controls to allow that. Pilots can select "hot microphone" which means that everything that say only to each other over the interphone system will always be transmitted and they'll hear the other pilot speak in their headset. This can be a little annoying because you hear everything from the other pilot, including his breathing. They can also select a setting that requires them to push the INT button each time they want to transmit their voice to the other pilot.
You could do this same thing using the A320 ACP you seem to be familiar with. Both pilots would push the INT reception knobs so they popped out and they can hear the INT source. Then, if one pilot pushed the INT/RAD toggle toward INT, the other would hear him speaking over his headset. This usually isn't necessary because the cockpit of most airliners is quiet enough to just talk normally. We sometimes do this if we have an emergency requiring us to wear our oxygen masks. Then we can hear each other over our headset or out of the cockpit overhead speakers.
You would still need to push a radio transmit button to talk outside the aircraft on one of the selected radios.

Well, you be concerned for both of us then. If he is who he says he is, he's a 14 y/o enthusiast. If he's not, what's he going to do "radio call" us to death? Everything about the operation of the radio control head on a basic airliner is open source, easily available with a few mouse clicks and not a security risk. If you're worried about this post, maybe you should advocate doing background checks on people who purchase Microsoft flight simulator too. I'm pretty sure they've got more detail on radio operation in their manual than I "divulged".

Looking for problems where there aren't any will shorten your life, most likely.
