One of my first new cars was a '58 Plymouth Fury, I often wonder what ever happened to it.

Watch the video, I think a human would have hit the pedestrian too. Now you’d think that with lasers on their foreheads these cars should be better but who knows

Our environment is a lot more dynamic. No question. Not to mention the much more complex systems of our machines.
That’s fair. It just seems like we are almost analogous to train conductors. There are tracks in the sky and an auto pilot would seemingly have little difficulty managing it. They would just have to be on point with EPs

I did. We’ll never know. But it is clear that the person who was supposed to be the “safety pilot” was distracted. The point of my post was that even something as “simple” as a self-driving car is a quite some time from being a safe reality. Automated planes have a long long long way to go before the foolhardy can risk their lives to automation and programming.

I really think the car didn’t recognize the pedestrian as a human. Probably didn’t fit the profile of a pedestrian wince she was moving a biycle

No telling what it thought she was-but the Lidar should easily have seen her in time to stop.

I’m telling y’all. This technology is crap right now. It’s dangerous and should not be allowed on public roads until it is more mature.

Sad that someone is dead, but this will be stopped. If stupid ass regulators who don’t understand the technology won’t stop it, civil judgements for tens or hundreds of millions damned sure will.

Not long after they finally perfect the pilotless airliner, someone else will perfect the teleport, and then UAV pilots will be out of a job.
