Default Do prior check-ride failures disqualify?

Hello everyone,

What is the consensus regarding prior check-ride failures, such as PVT, Comm, CFI, etc?

A friend of mine has failed his private pilot certificate twice
and commercial check-rides twice.

Since then, he has built many years of experience flying part 135 and did not fail his ATP ride.

I was attempting to convey to him that it could be problem if he wanted to pursue being an airline pilot starting at the Regionals.

Thanks for your feedback.

Does a computer care? Yes, he couldn't get a job at Jet Blue. Total checkride failures matter to a computer. A human being can see the bigger picture, a digital machine does not, and doesn't have to. Too many candidates with clean training records. He will have an uphill battle before his career ever really got started. Welcome to aviation.

Asking for a friend, huh? There's lots of that going on lately. I know people with several checkride failures and now flying 121. I also know guys to fail out of 121 programs and get hired at other 121 programs. Your friend is fine.

I have 2 failures from prior early training and I've got on with 2 companies, no failures on ATP or CFI or multiple 135 reccurent rides etc. With the current hiring environment in the regional world they probably won't have any issues with most places. But as long as they can show a continued history of success and can say how those failures made them a better pilot then that looks good.

Airlines generally care more about what you failed and whether you disclosed the failures, since a 121 or 135 training event failure raises way more red flags than a CFI or PPL failure.

While some HR computer systems will ding your friend for having checkride failures, the hiring situation (and forecase) across the airline industry right now is such that he shouldn't have a problem getting a job most places.

Had a buddy who failed the pre solo written. Mesa turned him down.

Yes, at the regional level. I should have added that in there (I guess I omitted it since we are in the regional section but thanks for clarifying).

I interviewed at 4 regionals, and not one asked me if I had any failures.
