Career Change While Working?
Hey all,
I'm 30 years old, single, no kids with minimal debt and a 4-year degree. The goal has always been to fly professionally, and I'm finally in a position in life to pursue this.
There is a local comm. college that offers an Associates in Commercial Piloting, but I'm hesitant for a few reasons...
1) I'd rather not go into *too* much debt entering this profession
2) I work full-time and can't really afford to take out another loan
I'm able to devote ~1,700/mo. strictly for flight training (maybe 2,000 if I starve myself on a Top Ramen diet lol). I know in the aviation world this isn't much, but would this budget allow me to complete my flight training in a timley fashion? My main concern is that it'd take me forever to build hours and get my licenses, and by the time I'm finished, this hiring/pilot-shortage boom I'm reading about will be gone.
I think my best option is to pay-as-I-go at a local mom and pop flight school, but wanted the advice/opinions of others who've been down this road before.
Finally, if anyone knows of a great flight school in the Seattle/Everett area, I'm all ears!
Thank you

Why not just fly for fun? You already have a BA or BS degree so no need to go back to college. Obtaining flight training while working is definitely possible. Have you researched what it would cost you to obtain all the certificates, ratings and flight hours? The extra spendable income you earn now, if you save it towards retirement for the next 30+ years would serve you very well versus being poor for the next 5-10 years and wiping out your savings....

Not gonna lie. but if you want to get into the game ASAP. Take out the loan for ATP and do the 40 hour program. I believe its a 65k loan for the 40 hour and the payments do not start coming until 1 year after graduation
