And you’re being a bit of a braggard.

As mentioned, some don’t have the good genes in their mid/late 40’s despite hard work.

Oh in that case we'll just write it off to to dumb luck. Everything I earned should probably be given to those less "fortunate" as well. PM your address, I'll send you some cool insignia to wear down at the VFW bar.

And if you’re denying the REALYITY of what I said, you’re NOT living in reality.

But god bless you for not having multiple sport/MX/mountain bike bike/ATV, etc injuries when you were young....

Keep sporting those cool T-shirt’s at the VFW...

The remaining WWII, Korea, and Vietnam guys probably think you’re Bravo Zulu

The reality is you're being a tool, why do you keep bringing up injuries? Of course I've had them, and the only luck involved was that I was left with enough raw material to work through it (even though the docs said I wouldn't once or twice).

I was annoyed with dude because he's spewing uninformed nonsense about the military so in response I shared a little about myself for context (otherwise he'd assume I was an AMC pilot or something). Of course it was 2100 on 17 Mar, so I'd had a drink or two

But that OAF thing is pretty funny. That's not me, no folding knife clipped to my pocket. I was "OAF", and pretty proud of it, back in the day, that was of course the whole point. Hard to do that kind of job if you're not into it. But you wouldn't know it if you met me today.

Watch it! One of us might roust out of the bunk and whip you with the plastic spoon from our left arm pocket.

A surprising number of fighter guys finished in heavies due to back and neck injuries. There is even a rubber stamp to effect “not authorized for ejection seat assignment”.

To the OP:

I wanted the fastest possible track to becoming an airline pilot and the regionals were hiring, so after college it was either spend a year or two building enough time to go fly an RJ or pursue a military career. Basically, I had no interest in military flying and had a huge interest in airline flying.

Had dozens and dozens of pilot co-workers in the early years. Only one of the young guys, besides me, pursued the military. He washed out of pilot training.

This whole thread seems silly. If you are curious about joining the military don't talk to people that didn't join the military. Talk to people who DID join the military and see if that lifestyle is something you want.

I have, I just wanted to get each side's perspective.

Talking to people who didn’t join the military has value. He can hear both sides of the ‘do I or don’t I’ reasoning.
