Default Anyone commute from BR or NOLA

Currently considering a career change. 32, married with kids, live in Baton Rouge (about 90 minutes from NOLA airport) and won't move because of my wife's job and support system with two young kids. Looking for wisdom on the following topics:
1. Go to ATP flight school (more expensive, tuition reimbursement with airlines, cadet programs/direct entry) or Gulf Coast Aviation (less expensive, more scheduling flexibility, ATP doesn't have great reputation for training)? Both located in BR
2. Would be a career commuter. Anyone currently commuting from BR or NOLA? Would prefer to get on with a regional/major that has a domicile in Houston (only 4.5 hr drive if I had to). 2nd choice would be ATL because of 12+ flights out of NOLA and 4+ out of BR. Also thought about Breeze because of domicile in NOLA but things seem to be shaky over there.

Again, any wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

I worked a full time career and got my ATP while living in Baton Rouge. I was in a similar spot and now just waiting until my daughter can drive so I can make my move. I learned to fly at KREG in Gonzales on evenings and weekends. After building some time to get my commercial, started flying pipeline part time that could also include survey or photo flights. Some days, I would get 7 hours! Another path could be CFI and then teach local. I did my commercial and ATP at Fly by Knight in Hammond, so would recommend them for advanced ratings.

I would get involved with local aviation and maybe come to second Saturday fish fry at Gonzales at 11AM. Look up EAA 244 on Facebook for info. There is a lot available locally, so would be hesitant to spend big money on pilot mill. I have flown with a number a people that fly jet planes locally or for airlines on same path.

As for commuting, a number of regionals can be reached direct from Baton Rouge. If you got Chicago, NYC, etc.. would just drive to New Orleans for direct flight. However, you are a long way away to worry about this issue and you might find another path along the way.

feel free to message me if you want.

Baton Rouge is plenty big to have a reasonable commute. Won’t be awesome, but it’s reasonable.

100% target being based somewhere with frequent service (dfw, iah, atl). Four flights a day would be the minimum
