Correct. Pilots who wind up in Alaska do come from some other part of the world. There are exceptions to the rule and or requirements. Those who have previous experience a variety of float time in such aircraft as DH-2s, DH-3s, C-206's, and C-180/185s. Same applies to those have extensive experience with winter operations. After all, Winter/Tundra & float ops are the same on Planet Earth no matter the location. I do agree there are, operators that hire low time pilots for summer operations for either left or right seat flying. Some are invited to remain for the Winter Season too. It was a bucket list item and an adventure I'll never forget.

Ameriflight, Mountain Air looking for captains only right now. Boutique Air and Tradewinds currently no openings ether. Plane sense has no positions open. Looking for more suggestions.
Airlineapps is updated every few weeks.

Of course, if you aren't tied down, go to AK. Plenty of flying jobs and great living/experience. Good luck.

Keep doing that but 2000 hrs of 172 won’t get much further than 1500.

you need to network.

The advice i got in 1996 was to move someplace like HPN and instruct there. Get to know the guys flying king airs and citations and make it known you’re looking. Something will come your way.

if your current gig is a non-towered field churning out foreign students you gotta go where you can meet people.

also drive around to local airports, talk to line guys and desk girls. The people who move the fuel know where the action is. Bring them cookies and business cards.

you should look at piston opportunities. Cape Air, private owners etc

Still havn't heard back from anyone except SkyWest, and NetJets.

Skywest: Initial paper work is done. Waiting on interview. This will be outwards of at least 2-3 months from reading others experieces online.

Netjets: Got the thanks but no thanks. They had a requirement of ATP-CTP and ATM done, I didn't have that. Working on it as I write this. They also wanted 50 ME. I only have 25. I'll try to get the additional 25 after the ATP-CTP and ATP written is done.

I have all the Airlineapps.com apps filled out and updating every 2 weeks. I'll be going to Sun-N-Fun to hopefully put a face to my resume. I have also applied to Contour, and Tradewinds. Ive looked at medevac since I have a 20 year Critical Care Nurse background, but non are close enough to meet the driving time requirments.

Keeping all doors open, while still CFIing in hopes someone rings my phone for a CJO/Class/interview.

Whats everyone else seeing/hearing right now? How long do you think it will be until planes start to deliver again?

You are greatly over-estimating your competitiveness in the marketplace.

Lots of pilots retire from Netjets - it's a desirable job. They do not hire wet ATP CFI's in anything but extreme circumstances. You got a boilerplate "you do not meet our stated minimums" HR letter. It does not follow that when you meet the stated mins, you are competitive.

Skywest may call, but the market has shifted and 1500 hours isn't remarkable any more. They have applicants >>> positions.

You need some intermediate job to build time and experience.

With your background in nursing, I'd keep my foot on that side. With 20 years or CCN experience, you should be poised to find telehealth, remote work or anything non-bedside related with enough flexibility to afford you part-time pro-flying until conditions improve enough to put you back on the path you seek. I bring that up because prseumably you're quitting 20 years of nursing because you're burnt out with bedside. My wife is ACU RN and going for FNP for schedule and quality of life improvements for our household. So I understand if "beside QOL" is why you're wanting out of nursing.

I don't think eating years of undercompensation in your 40s during a time of airline non-hiring, is going to get you closer to the line significantly faster; it's just running in place, given the hiring has already stopped in your target destination (mainline 121) and 2025 is a down cycle. Of course I'm a QOL over MaxW2 guy, I rather be on the outside than transcon commute at the bottom of any relative seniority category for an indeterminate amount of time, at any longevity pay. A bit of a hot take, but we all have priorities in life, and that's an individual's prerrogative at the end of the day. I'm just saying if I had my wife's background as a backup, part time pro flying would be my go to in this environment.

Good luck to ya.

Long term goal is a legacy. I’m 45yo.

I’d like to avoid any contracts if I can. What is the best path for me at this point with the current status of the hiring trends?
You’re a little light but try and get a 135 FO position.

https://www.flyexclusive.com/careers...-opportunities

Fly two years or a 1000hrs 135 then move on or if you’re close to upgrade do another 1000hrs.
That will put you at 50 with 1000 hrs jet PIC.
At this stage in the game it’s now what you want it’s what you can get.
Get more ME time, engine cuts in the sim at rotation are not fun.

You do realize that Fly Exclusive job requires 2000 hours total time, a type rating, and a complete ATP? All for $77k/yr: https://www.airlinepilotcentral.com/...5/flyexclusive

And hardly any 135s are hiring right now anyway.

To OP:

I think the above is a good path. I don't know what Contour wants. I suspect they are still having trouble finding qualified captains but in this environment they have all the 1500 hour CFIs they could want. Absolutely keep applying and updating at all these places and go to events to try to get a little extra juice but don't get your hopes up yet. You need to differentiate yourself. A little 135 SIC time could do that.

Look at Red Wing Aviation after FlyExclusive
