To be fair, they would need to charge at least double the hourly rate to factor in any benefits like heath insurance, dental, etc, and then other costs like paying for facilities, utilities, etc, and then any possible pay-growth on top of that (like making $20/hr or more later on).

Now, maybe they have no benefits, and if that's the case, they are probably pocketing a good deal more, but unless you are working freelance, there usually isn't much direct correlation between hourly pay and instructor rate.

My point is that if it's not enough pay, don't take the job, but it's not realistic to assume that charging $50/hr means they can pay the flight instructor $40/hr.
