Default Help wanted from Egypt!

I am currently a 4th year Electronics Engineering student studying at the German University in Cairo (GUC) which is accredited in the EU and I am looking forward to go to a flight school after I graduate. I am kindly asking your assistance to know how to increase my chances to be accepted as a commercial pilot in a distinguished airliner.

1- I am Egyptian, I can get a work permit to work anywhere, and an unrestricted passport what else do I need (apart from the medical certificates)? (Do ppl still think that egyptians ride camels to work? )
2- if i want to work for example for BA Do I have to get my license from the UK?
3- Can I apply for a job when I get my CPL or do I have to have an ATPL?
4- Do they require a certain GPA regarding my bachelor degree?

finally how can i decide which flight school should i choose from all the flight schools in the world?

Thank you for your time and awaiting your kind replies.

1. Obviously you will need the right to work in whatever country the airline in question is based. As far as legal requirements, that should be enough. But be aware that actually getting an airline job can be very difficult, usually based on some combination of your school performance, flight experience, and who you know.

2. Europe (including UK) uses JAA standardized licensing, so you would need JAA licenses. For the US, you would need FAA licenses. Other countries have their own licensing system, but many will accapt JAA or FAA.

3. Most airlines which require JAA would require you to have a frozen ATPL. This means you have a CPL and have taken all the tests and checkrides for an ATPL, but do have enough flight time yet. Once you get the flight time, your frozen ATPL becomes an normal ATPL. US regional airlines require a CPL, US major airlines require a US ATP. Most US majors require far more experience, like 5000 hours, or military flight experience.

4. Non-US airlines will look very closely at your school record, and may have GPA requirements. US airlines, not so much.

Most of the people here on APC are americans, for better advice on europe and asia, check our pprune.org.

In the US, you will need to network. It is hard to get hired at most airlines without being recommended by a pilot who already works there. You do not need to have a close relative in management, but it sure helps.

I think some european and asian airlines might hire more on merit...based on your school records.

Granted I know very little about airlines outside the US (other than the hotties i see lined up behind every Saudi, Luftansa, Emirates etc, pilot) but if youre looking for a "distinguished" airliner....stay overseas! I really think the only thing holding US pilots back from making more money and having a better quality of life is that they are not willing to move. That means they are pretty much stuck with airlines here....where the quality of life, pay, hotties, and respect is circling the drain.
