How many pages does your resume fill? Are there clearly defined sections with bullet points? Or is it a long rambling narrative listing every single job since delivering papers in 10th grade? Does it list EEOC hot-button items such as your marital status (bad) or gender (bad)? Did you include your contact information?

Have you considered starting a ground school at your local airport? Or giving WINGS Seminars on topics you'd like to become an expert in teaching?

Turns out they decided to go ahead with this program although I read on their website 6 months ago that it was on hold. It is only 50-60 jobs in a market for engineers that is presently over run with talent. There were around 10,000 out of work in Wichita alone last year. I am still running in to highly experienced people at job fairs who have not worked since. Here is some news on the PiperJet program.

4/13 , George Larson. AviationWeek.com. Despite the recession, there has been no slowdown in progress on the PiperJet, according to Piper Aircraft CEO Kevin Gould. In remarks made at the annual Sun ‘n’ Fun Fly-In April 13, Gould says the proof-of-concept aircraft has logged 340 hours of data gathering during 240 flights that have explored both high-speed and low-speed flight regimes. The company is hiring 60 to 70 additional engineers as the project moves into the next phase. Detailed design is underway, to be followed by assembly of a conformal aircraft, which will mark the time when actual certification flight testing can get underway. The company hopes to have a conformal model ready before the end of the year. The preliminary design review is complete, and the aircraft is currently on schedule and meeting its weight and cost targets, with first deliveries scheduled for 2013. Piper still has 200 standing orders for the single-engine, $2.199 million personal jet, with very few cancellations during the economic downturn, Gould says.

Keep trying different schools I guess and don't yet dismiss this one either. I applied for a journeyman draftsman position a few months ago and was surprised to get called for a brief phone interview just last week. He told me that he's had over 600 resumes submitted to him for 1 position. He called 100 or so out of those and I will get a call by the end of the week if I qualify enough to come in for an interview. Since I haven't got a call back yet, I figure that I am out of the running. Nothing personal, it's just how it goes, so don't take it so personally.

Even CFI jobs, the once guaranteed fall back job for just about anyone in aviation, is hard, if not impossible, to get a job in. Before usually the only people who had difficulty getting a CFI gig were furloughed 121ers but usually they could get jobs elsewhere.

The market for CFIs is probably just as saturated with seasons CFIs as there are FOs on the street from the airlines. I feel bad for all the wet CFIs with 0 hours of dual given unable to get ANYTHING. I have about 200 hours dual given and really cant get anything about part time here and there. A few of my friends I graduated with have been unable to find anything and are more or less no longer current.

In short, do not take it personally at all. Things just suck. Period.

I don't think you realize that not only are there no pro jobs but not even students, people are just not flying. If you want it bad and are open to anything search around the country for places that train foreign pilots, they always have students. No sense in beating yourself up though, that job isn't going to come any faster. Most of it is luck. Find another passion until there is movement.

I went to FSI at VRB. I came for a commercial multi, left after the commercial multi. The instructor program seemed to be very expensive. Also the chance of being hired seemed to be slim to none. This was during the boom of 04. I'm sure now its next to impossible to get hired.

Not entirely true..I've been teaching there since September and they've probably hired 50-60 instructors since my class. Granted, that's probably a small percentage compared to the number of resumes they're getting.

JSF--how many hours do you have? I know they're looking for guys with at least 500TT/200 Dual Given and the CFI/I to get in one of the JAA programs..which consists of about 90% of the student load.
