PRIA and pilot record request

First, let me say thanks to Lori and whoever else is responsible for putting this section together. I perused quite a bit of it recently and there is lots of good info. I appreciate the resource being out there.
I am likely to be out of a job in a few months and so I am getting my ducks in a row. I am in the process of getting copies of my FAA pilot records and NDR just to ensure everything is what I think it is. I am wondering if the records the FAA will give me is anything different that what a prospective employer would see on a PRIA. Any insight appreciated. Thanks!

FAA records would include certs held and any violations.

PRIA records come from previous aviation employers, and they are supposed to include:

121/135: Training records and disciplinary actions related to flight ops safety (late for work, insubordination, etc should not appear on PRIA).

91: They are supposed to submit whatever records they have, if any.

The FAA records would not have all of the employer stuff, the only overlap would be if you got violated by the FAA over something which the employer also disciplined you for.

You can certainly get a copy of PRIA records for yourself whenever you authorize the release of info from past employers. I'm not sure if you can just do that on your own or if you need to apply for a job somewhere and do oit as part of that process. You could always apply to gojet just to get copies of your PRIA records... ;)

Please keep in mind that obtaining your training records this way may only happen once a job offer is made (and typically accepted.) Employers don't like to spend money on background checks, etc if the candidate isn't a probable employee.

You are entitled to see the records your employer maintains about you. Try contacting the person who maintains the training files and chat 'em up. Ask them if there is any way for you to get a copy of what would be shared information. It may require a trip to visit them physically or they may have the capability of emailing it to you - just depends on their filing system. Or you may have to visit them, view it and perhaps make copies yourself. They may not allow for that, but you could at least view your file.

Good for you Tony on doing your homework. So many don't bother to investigate what is in writing and suffer later. It is good practice to know what is in writing in your background - that's the only way you can speak intelligently about your own history. Kudos!

Thanks for the info Rick and Lori! I guess I will call my previous employer to see if they will release a copy of the records to me. Appreciate the help!

Also from what I read, Part 91 things, such as flight instruction do not require a PRIA or a record release. Correct me if I am wrong please?

I think you are wrong with any entity employing a pilot shall maintain records on that individual as per PRIA.

91 employers are not required (or allowed) to obtain PRIA records from previous employers.

91 employers not trequired to keep any specific records on pilots.

A 121/135 must request PRIA records from any previous pilot employer, including 91 employers.

91 employers must respond with any records which they do happen to keep, but if they don't keep records obviously they do not have to respond.

What happens if a previous pilot 121/135 company no longer exists?
