Why would someone with 8000+ hours not be considered? It doesn't make sense to me.

I agree. Aggressive go-getter flying in H.S., flying while in college, might have 8000 hrs in their mid to late 20's. Sorry, too experienced too soon!

Pretty much wipes out the following refugees: ATA, Astar, ABX, Champion, Midwest and TWA.

Decided to take the time and attend. My first job fair. Can some of you who have attended these before please shed some light on what to expect? 5 mins with the HR/Recruiter? Is it a question session, or just talk to get to know you?

...and please no advice on attire. Directions were business casual, so that's what it will be.

Thank you.

I signed up too. Not sure if it's a good 'investment' or not, but I do know one guy who claims these things do matter.

I went two years ago and paid the fee and then was told that they weren't hiring anyway, but hey, thanks for coming.

My experience was generally positive though. You will meet a few Delta pilot and have a few minutes of face time with a recruiter.

I fit right in their demographic and qualification guidelines, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I went to the one in LAS a couple weeks ago and stood in line for about three hours to sit down with the head of pilot selection from Delta for less than 5 minutes. He will look at your resume and ask you a couple questions about your background. You can ask him a couple questions. He told me that right now they are looking for check airman or for those involved in some sort of safety group. I know everyone says that these thing help. They definitely cannot hurt, but when you are one out of hundreds of people attending these things during the year it makes you wonder. I did notice that he did give business cards to a handful of people, but not everyone. Some who attend these fairs may be the chosen ones.

I guess they assume that if you have over 8,000 hrs, you might be a much older applicant with less return on investment and perhaps too set in your ways to adapt to DAL? I have had a app with DAL for quite a while but still waiting. I have 12,500 TT, with 4000 PIC Jet, Master's degree with previous major and international experience. 4 Internal letters from DAL (including one CheckAirman) plus 8 other LOR's. I also have MD, Airbus and Boeing time.

Personally, I wouldn't let the 8,000 TT prevent me from putting my best foot forward if that's the company I wanted to fly for. Delta has hired retired FedEx pilots as well as military retirees, in the past few years so I doubt it's a show stopper. Granted, they may prefer you not have too much experience for one reason or another, but I'd be willing to bet that if you're the type of person they're looking for they'll bring you on.

I had a DAL pilot on my jumpseat a while back. Nice guy. He was hired by DAL at age 50!
