Default What would you do

I think I know the answer but what would you all do?

500 hour pilot CSEL/CMEL

Try to get an aerial survey job and pack it 6-700 piston hours in 6-8 months that would get me to 135 mins OR I have the chance to fly a turbo prop single. I would have to stay there for a year and probably only get about 400 hours in a year but they would all be TPIC. Then probably get my CFI to build hours at the same time.

I know the TPIC job would put me about 6 months behind the other as far as hours but would the turbine PIC time far out weight that?

Where would you like to go after? What is your ideal next step?

FYI,
If you're after the mystical TPIC, I don't think caravan time really fills that box. I think it has to be over 12.5 and typically they are looking for ME TPIC... Could be wrong though...

I would also agree with that!

I would like to fly for one of the contractors flying KA in the sandbox.

So SE TPIC is worthless or about the same as single piston? If so the hours and money would be better doing survey work.

I am by no means an expert, but I would guess that the total time is going to be more important. Look at the requirements for the job, if there is a turbine requirement than maybe I would consider it. But TT will probably be just as important and if you can get that quicker with more money and better hours I would lean towards that.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

Have you read the multiple threads with details of L3/Avenge/and Dynamic?
The posted hiring mins and competitive mins are posted throughout. I think that you would have a clear idea of where to focus your efforts if you have a clear idea of what it takes to get hired at one of those companies.

Both sound like decent opportunities. Better hurry if you want to find an aerial survey job though. Many places aren't hiring new pilots this year for various reasons or are already full up. Those left seem to be at the tail-end of the hiring process. Good luck.

Actually I have read a great deal about them. What mins are can be very different from what gets you hired. Thus the reason I asked how meaningful SE TPIC time is.

So with where you stand on TT right now and what equipment they fly - does it not help you down which path (TT vs SE TPIC) would better help your chances for employment?

Yes - stated mins and competitve mins can be VERY different.
That is why the threads are such good information when people who actually get hired post their personal statistics. A picture usually forms of what a company is looking for, though some intangibles like networking are hard to factor into the planning.
