Skyhigh, why don't you do some "proof of concept" testing. Buy an unmanned vehicle operated by yourself, place your wife & kids in it, and fly them between to major airports. Then report back to us your results.

I do not have the skills to accomplish that however when the day comes that fully automated airliners are in use I will happily fly with my family places secure in the knowledge that some disinterested hung over 20 year old is not at the helm.

As you said you do not have the skills or expertise to do this, therefore it is presumptuous of you to assume it will ever happen.

But it's ok if the disinterested hung over 20 year old is flying your family from the ground via a computer? Besides, when have you ever been on an airline where both people up front were 20 years old? Were you at their hotel and see them drinking to know they were hung over? God help your family, mine will never step foot on a plane without someone up front.

People might take you a little more seriously if you weren't so dramatic and pull things out of your backside to make up a false and emotional argument. Are you ever going to grow up?

As a result of this and other things you won't read about, we're actually seeing more emphasis being placed on hand flying. So close though, Sky.

Question

I can tell that Skyhigh isn't a computer nerd.

Assignment 1: google Race conditions, with special emphasis on medical devices

Assignment 2: realize that human error in the cockpit can be replaced by human error by a ground based UAV operator. It can also be replaced by human error in the programming of the system.

Even Apple machines can get viruses.

You are wrong! According to Sky, there will be no more pilots in 20 years because every airplane will be fully automated by that time. After all, he is the expert in the field which he doesn't work in and hasn't for a very long time.

It makes sense that Boeing and Airbus will be going from two man airplanes to fully automated airplanes so quickly.
