Default Last advice

Hello all,
I leave tomorrow to Charlotte for my interview with PSA on Thursday. Needless to say I am a wreck! As some of you know from my previous posts, this will be my first interview in the 121 world. Any last minute advice? About PSA? Or in general? Anything constructive is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You should think twice. If you haven't read about the TA I would do it now. Your future could depend on it if it passes.

Don't get me wrong, I would still interview. But think twice before accepting the offer before the TA is voted on.

Make sure you take your time and review the paperwork. Ensure you have everything packed ahead of time and make a checklist. Then relax and spend time with the family. When you go interview be yourself and enjoy the experience. If you don't know what a Commercial pilot with 1,500 hrs is supposed to know by know you won't. Just relax and show up with a good night rest.

I don't know much about PSA, but as far as interviews in general go, wear a suit and tie with dress shoes, clean shaven, (no 5 o'clock shadow) get your hair cut a day or so before, make sure your finger nails are clean, look your interviewer in the eye, firm handshake and smile.
Arrive about 10 minutes early, DON'T BE LATE!

Make sure all your paperwork is in order, neat and presentable. I take a brief case with me. Log book, resume, letters of rec, copies of license & medical all ready and neatly organized.

Airlines aren't looking for anyone particularly special, just normal. Be positive, don't talk negatively about instructing, previous employers etc.

Don't B.S. your interviewer, be honest with your answers and if you don't know the answer to a question, just be honest. Don't get too carried away with TMAAT stories. Stick to basic stuff that we have all come across.

Assume you are being watched at all times. Don't swear, rip ass, or sit there texting on your phone, even in the break room!

If for whatever reason you are not successful you will have gained valuable interview experience and almost all of the regional are hiring right now.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Accept the offer as he won't be in class before the results are in. Who knows if someone else will be calling him or offering a job.

Do you have interviews anywhere else? I would attend the interview for sure, its valuable experience. There's some uncertainty right now around here. We're in the process of voting on a tentative agreement that if passed, could severely effect the future and compensation of our pilots. If it doesn't im sure management will try to convince us that we're shutting down. Rah is hiring, offering a signing bonus, and has growth on the way (whether Usair and amr merge or not). That might mean more stability and obviously money. Sorry if I sound discouraging right before your big day, but you should know the facts. While youre there try to relax. They want to hire you, just don't give them a reason not to. Remember, in today's environment they need you much more than you need them. Good luck and try to have fun with it. PS, they probably will ask you why PSA, so have an answer prepared.

Why are you a "wreck" ?

Put your mind (and confidence) in the right frame :

- You are a commodity in increasing decline and thus desirable.
- Understand that you're not alone in experiencing stress in this process.
- Understand that interviewers and evaluators know that.
- Don't be cocky and above all don't show frustration or lose your cool. They almost certainly will apply some form of "confrontation" to test this be it criticism of an answer or documentation issues.
- You have flaws (we all do), so be honest about evaluating yourself.
- You've probably studied tech stuff like Terps, FAR's and procedures up the yin-yang, but think of abnormal situations and things you did to minimize their impact or help resolve them.
- PSA isn't a gem and at the very least consider this a self-training/polishing experience that will help you in the future whether you're successful this time and will use for your next advancement career move or whether not and you apply it toward your next regional.
- Look around at the other candidates (if there are any) and know most, if not all are crapping cinderblocks too. If they aren't they're B.S.ing.
- Get a good nights sleep if you can.

Good Luck and get used to this type of stress. You'll feel it again every 6-12 months during check ride time. It's just part of this biz.

Wow! Thank you everyone for the positive and encouraging advice. I am aware of PSA's current situation with the TA up for vote. If offered a position, I will not decline and take it day by day to see where this will go. I do indeed have another interview set up with Eagle in a couple of weeks in Dallas. This came as a surprise to me because I initially received an email stating I did not meet the minimums. I clearly did but I did not contact them about it. a week later, the sent me the interview invite via email. I am excited for both interviews and am hoping they both turn out positive. I have a few other applications floating out there but no other calls yet. Thanks again everyone for the advice...I will put it to good use!
