I have over 4000 hrs TT, from instructing to part 135 ops.
Most of it is single pilot cargo operations in pistons and multi turbines.
I have a current ATP written.
With over a hundred resumes sent out, I have had NO responses.
Starting to believe that they think I'm over qualified for FO positions and under qualified for Captain positions.
Also lacking glass experience, but how do I get experience when nobody wants to give me the opportunity?
Another thing is the single pilot time I have logged is not that great to have either, because they want you to have CRM skills..
Again...How am I supposed to get this if nobody wants to hire me?

I know what you all are thinking.. Go to the regionals, right?
Can't afford it, and too old to start a career with the airlines (40).

Almost ready to look for something else to do..

Suggestions?

First, you're not alone in that situation. So, take some comfort in that. :-)

Off the bat, I'd say knock out the ATP at your next recurrent ride if your company lets you. Better to have an ATP on your resume than the written.

Second, network, network, network. Even knowing people it's tough, but I think it's virtually impossible to get a job sending in a resume cold.

I'm a freight guy and the toughest part about networking is I work a crazy schedule and when it's daylight I'm in an outstation. Still, I make it a point on days off from time to time to swing by my old haunts (flight school, FBO, etc...) at home to shoot the breeze, check in with friends and just show my face. You never know.

If there is one nearby, try hitting a job fair. It may seem weird, but it's actually a decent experience. Just the practice alone from handing your resume to a couple of recruiters and talking to them for a bit is fantastic experience.

I went through this summer on a pretty intense job hunt, managed to get a couple of opportunities that weren't quite right so I didn't jump. It's brutal.

So, last bit of advice: Don't be afraid to take a break from the hunt to recharge. Even a week away helps.

Hope that helps.

The number one thing is confidence in yourself - if you have lost it, employers can smell it! Recommend getting a professional review of the resume, if it gets you hired even a day sooner, it will pay for itself. Maybe you are making one of the "fatal flaws" and don't even know it?

Over or under qualified?

Maybe both.

You are over qualified for certain jobs. The employers thinks you are using them as a rest stop and doesn't want to invest time in training you (which may or may not be true - you should both be honest with each other in my opinion)

Or....you are under qualified for certain jobs because you don't yet have the ATP in hand, or your ME Turbine PIC might be a little low (you didn't break down your 4000 TT), etc....

Maybe you are targeting the wrong jobs.
As another poster responded, maybe your resume has a hidden death nail. If not a professional review, at least a trusted fellow pilot who understands the lingo should be given a shot at QC'ing your work.

From the information given in the first post, it sounds like you might be prime pickings for the Regionals (but you give you reasons for trying to avoid this route), but that leaves similar P135 jobs that you might have already looked at or serious networking for the better corporate jobs.

Good luck.

Thanks guys. You have some valid points.
Was hoping I could get the ATP on a type ride, but looks like it has to be on a recurrent instead.
Yes USMCFLYR, I am a little low on PIC turbine time (260), but i'd be happy to start right seat in any multi turbine equipment and work my way up.
Just need a chance...

Yes, a while back. I believe they required ATP and a referral from within..

Probably under qualified for most majors, due to lack of crew, glass. Any jet time? Anything heavier than 20K? Good references might overcome some of this but at your experience level they pretty much expect you to have an ATP.

You should be able to get hired by a regional though, better double-check the resume for typos, etc.

If I were looking at your resume on my desk, the biggest thing that pops out at me is 4000 hours and no ATP. I'd pass you over every time for someone that has it.

Lots of companies use electronic filters to screen apps, if ATP is one of the filters you'll never get a call.

Get it done.
