Over or under qualified??

indeed, if you have 4000 already, the lack of an ATP is an "eyebrow raiser" it almost raises a red flag, like, uh, what is this dude waiting for.
most career hungry dudes have the ATP written in-hand at 1200 hours and ATP is knocked out at 1501-2000 area.
Your comment of "can't afford it" (nobody here could either...) and "too old to start a career with the airlines" ? Well, how hungry are you ? Are you waiting on a G-5 callback from Chevron Flight Dept ?
Get the ATP, and go to the regionals to get 121 and crew time. Don't forget the importance of networking.
All my opinion of course...good luck

Thanks guys. You have some valid points.
Was hoping I could get the ATP on a type ride, but looks like it has to be on a recurrent instead.
Yes USMCFLYR, I am a little low on PIC turbine time (260), but i'd be happy to start right seat in any multi turbine equipment and work my way up.
Just need a chance...

Pilot jobs are a dime a dozen presently. One needs to be qualified, however, and at 4,000 hours without an ATP, your'e limiting the jobs for which you're qualified. You'll find yourself a lot more marketable if you go get your ATP. You seem to be waiting for someone else to pay it for you. Invest and get it done.
It's been mentioned, but get your resume professionally reviewed, and get with a job coach to get some insight into how to better market yourself.
Be willing to move to find work, and be willing to travel to meet employers, deliver resumes in person, etc.
Mailing resumes is a little like fishing with an empty hook. It works sometimes, but you can do better.
If you've mailed 100 resumes, you've just scratched the surface. Make 700 more.

Will be talking to my current employer about making next recurrent into an ATP check ride. If that doesn't work, i'll figure out another way.
My resume will also be getting a do and look over.
Think in the back of my mind I knew this needed to happen, but thanks guys for moving it up to the top of my priority list.

You say you are to old for the regionals but that could be your answer. You don't have to stay forever. Go to on that doesn't have a training contract and gives you the ATP ride as part of initial training. A lot of them also give you a type. Then you can add CRM and glass to your résumé too.

I would also recommend going to a job fair and just talking to some of the airlines each one will probably be able to tell you what they are looking for. I went to one last week and everyone I talked to was very honest and chill. I got a lot of good feedback and they answered any questions i ask.
