Default QOL Factors

When comparing airlines, what are the different factors considered as to which one is the right fit? I've got the main ones (domiciles, pay, jr capt date of hire, guarantee), but will be spending the next 6 months really digging into the info.

Thanks in advance!

I'm doing the same thing Herc, and another aspect that I am curious to hear opinions on is culture. Everyone knows SWA culture, there's some good talk out there on JetBlue culture, but I've never heard a real good comparison of culture at the majors. American's application process seems to really stress this, looking to find out if you understand and fit with their culture, but I don't really know what they consider that culture to be.

Good question Herc.

Apply everywhere....when you have two class dates then I'd weigh culture. I think it's overrated as a consideration....I'd place way more emphasis on seniority movement ..... Good luck!

Absolutely, I'm with you on the big picture; I'm not sure why someone wouldn't apply to all of the majors and legacies while waiting out their dream airline job.

I guess my portion of the question is more focused on knowing what they are looking for in a new hire than being picky about getting a job. When American asks you during your video interview to explain what you know about their culture, I don't think the right answer would be that their culture doesn't matter because they are about to lose the bulk of their seniority list to retirement in the next ten years - even though they are going to be leading the charge on seniority movement.

One thing I have always been nervous about is if I lost my medical, how hard would it be to get a job with the company. It's way down the list of important considerations, but if one of your options has a headquarters / operations center / training center near your home, that might be a tiebreaker.

Another one is how the company is doing financially, as a strong company is more likely to have good QOL for the pilots than a struggling company. That one is a guess as it's all cyclical.

All the majors have cultures which are within fairly narrow left and right lateral limits. None of them will let you drink on the job, and none of them will stop you from drinking on an overnight.

If you're a military guy you'll be able to fit it in with any of them, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
