Question Reserves & Domiciles

OK, so I think I have a fairly solid grasp on how each of the reserves work (LCR, SCR, RR) and how the line bidding works. However, I did not see anything on the forums specifically about domiciles and reserve.

Pardon my ignorance, but (prior to digging through these forums the last couple of weeks) I always assumed that even though I was domiciled in City X (say Denver) that my flight for the day may originate in SFO and end in PDX and that I might have to commute to start and end my trip. Which seems to not be the case.

How does it work for reserves? Will my reserve block 'always' be at my domicile?

Your reserve duty will always assume you are at your domicile, except for LCR where you could be anywhere within a reasonable commute.

Any reserve assignment will start in your domicile, although you might deadhead to another city and sit reserve there. But they start and finish you at your domicile, and any travel elsewhere is their expense. If you're a commuter, you're responsible for getting yourself to your domicile.

^^^^ is correct. You are responsible for reporting at your domicile just like you would for any other job. They can move you around as they need you (and they will), but it will be on their dime (and you will find that they have a lot of dimes). Likewise, you will finish in your domicile, though some companies allow you to DH straight to your home city on the company dime.

The actual mechanics and reserve rules will very from one company to the next, and examples of past success are no guarantee on future performance.

Great question, and good response. Took me a while to figure this out myself. Reserve is a tough row to hoe, but it'll pay off for you down the line. Good luck!
